The Trade Union International of Textile, Leather and Fur Workers Unions was a trade union international affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions. History The Trade Union International of Textile, Leather and Fur Workers Unions was formed in 1958 when the TUIs of Leather, Shoe, Fur and Leather Products and of Textile and Clothing Workers merged. Both of the earlier organizations were founded in 1949. Organization Of African Trade Union Unity
The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) (French: Organisation de L'Unité Syndicale Africaine; OUSA) is an independent regional union federation aimed at unifying trade union centres in Africa. This organisation was founded in April, 1973 as a successor to two previously competing labour union organisations in Africa: the All-African Trade Union Federation (AATUF) and the African Trade Union Confederation (ATUC). The process to unify a Pan-African labour union organisation also involved international labour organisations as decision-making stakeholders like the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) and the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). The International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation (ITGLWF) was a global union federation. In 2005 it had 217 member organizations in 110 countries, representing a combined membership of over 10 million workers. History The ITGLWF was founded in 1970 as a result of the merger of the International Textile and Garment Workers' Federation and the International Shoe and Leather Workers' Federation. These organizations were preceded by much older ones: the International Glove Workers' Union was founded in 1892, the International Secretariat of Shoemakers in 1893, and the International Secretariat of Leather Workers in 1896. The International Federation of Textile Workers' Associations originated in 1894 and the International Tailors' Secretariat in 1896. Lina Fibbi
Giulietta Fibbi (4 August 1920 – 21 January 2018) was an Italian trade union leader, communist politician and anti-fascist activist. Born in Fiesole in Italy, Fibbi grew up in Lyon, where her socialist father fled to avoid persecution by the fascist government. When she was 15, she began working in a textile mill, and two years later, she became the leader of the Union of French Girls. During World War II, Fibbi was imprisoned in the Rieucros Camp, where she worked closely with Teresa Noce to organise underground education in politics and the Italian language. She was returned to Italy in 1941 and immediately arrested but was released after six months, due to a lack of evidence against her. She was placed under surveillance for two years, and when this ended, she began working for the illegal Italian Communist Party (PCI). Teresa Noce (29 July 1900 – 22 January 1980) was an Italian labor leader, activist, journalist and feminist. She served as a parliamentary deputy and advocated broad social legislation benefiting mothers. Biography Teresa Noce was born in Turin, Italy on 29 July 1900 to an unmarried, working-class mother. She started working as a turner in the local Fiat Brevetti factory at the age of ten. By the age of 12, she was involved in the workers' union and joined demonstrations. As a journalist she wrote for ''Il Grido del Popolo'' (''The People's Cry'') and ''Ordine Nuove'' from 1914 to 1917. She protested when Italy entered World War I in 1915 and joined the Young Socialist movement in 1919. Following the rise of Mussolini and the Fascists, Noce left the Socialists, becoming a founding member of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in 1921. The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) is an international federation of trade unions established in 1945. Founded in the immediate aftermath of World War Two, the organization built on the pre-war legacy of the International Federation of Trade Unions as a single structure for trade unions world-wide. With the emergence of the Cold War in the late 1940s, the WFTU splintered, with most trade unions from the Western-aligned countries leaving and creating the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) in 1949.
