Tracy Corkhill
Tracy Corkhill is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera ''Brookside'', played by Justine Kerrigan. The character debuted on-screen during the episode broadcast on 10 September 1985. Tracy was introduced as part of a new family, the Corkhills, which also includes her brother Rod Corkhill (Jason Hope) and their parents Doreen Corkhill (Kate Fitzgerald) and Billy Corkhill (John McArdle). Thames Television, commonly simplified to just Thames, was a Broadcast license, franchise holder for a region of the British ITV (TV network), ITV television network serving Greater London, London and surrounding areas from 30 July 1968 until the night of 31 December 1992. Gladys Ambrose
Gladys Ambrose (28 December 1930 – 4 July 1998) was an English actress of film and television, best known for her role as the gossipy Julia Brogan on the long-running soap opera, ''Brookside'', which she played from 1985 until just before her death from cancer in July 1998 at the age of 67. Family Ambrose was born in Everton, Liverpool, Lancashire. She was married to Johannes Duiveman from 1954 until his death in 1996; they had two childrenJanetteand Wendy. The ''Daily Mirror'' is a British national daily tabloid. Founded in 1903, it is owned by parent company Reach plc. From 1985 to 1987, and from 1997 to 2002, the title on its masthead was simply ''The Mirror''. Southport Visiter
The ''Southport Visiter'' is a weekly paid-for print newspaper covering Southport, Merseyside, England. It was founded in 1844 as a single sheet listing visitors to the seaside town. It is now owned by Reach Regionals, formerly Trinity Mirror, and in 2018 it was announced that its website would merge with that of the ''Liverpool Echo'', with the distinct printed product continuing. The paper was published from premises in Lord Street in Southport until 1889 when it moved to Tulketh Street. After printing ceased in Southport the building was larger than needed, and for part of 2010 the ground floor was occupied by Southport Library. In 2014 it was announced that staff would move to a new "digital hub" on Lord Street, the street where the newspaper had begun. In July 2018 it was reported that the empty premises in Tulketh Street had been vandalised, and that staff were not working at the Lord Street premises but were based in Liverpool. Simon O'Brien (presenter)
Simon O'Brien (born 19 June 1965 in Garston, Liverpool, Merseyside) is a British television actor and radio presenter as well as a property developer. Career He came to prominence as the character Damon Grant in ''Brookside'', a role he played from the soap's launch in 1982 until 1987, when his character was killed off in York at the end of the 'soap bubble' ''Damon and Debbie''. In 1989, Simon starred in the British version of Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock until 1990. He portrayed the Lighthouse Keeper called BJ in the much acclaimed musical puppet TV series. Damon Grant
Damon Grant is a fictional character in the defunct British soap opera '' Brookside'', played by Simon O'Brien. The character was part of the initial cast, appearing from episode one in 1982 until 1987. At the time of the soap's inception, Damon was the youngest son of Bobby and Sheila Grant, with an older brother, Barry, and older sister, Karen. Introduction Damon was introduced after having broken into the Collins' house in the first episode on 2 November 1982, aged 14. When questioned by Paul Collins about the theft of a lavatory and vandalism that had occurred, Bobby lashes out at Damon. The British Newspaper Archive web site provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London, until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. This is partly because of the legal deposit legislation of 1869, which required newspapers to supply a copy of each edition of a newspaper to the library. London editions of national daily and Sunday newspapers are complete back to 1801. In total, the collection consists of 660,000 bound volumes and 370,000 reels of microfilm containing tens of millions of newspapers with 52,000 titles on 45 km of shelves.
