Shelley Jean Newman, now Parr and (née Drew), (born 8 August 1973) is a female retired English discus thrower. She was born in Carshalton, London and competed for Great Britain at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Athletics career Her personal best throw is 61.22 metres, achieved in June 2003 in Loughborough. This was the English record for many years and at the time and placed her fourth on the British outdoor all-time list, behind Meg Ritchie, Venissa Head and Philippa Roles. She represented England in the discus event, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Four years later she won a bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Jacqueline ("Jackie") McKernan (born 1 July 1965) is a retired Northern Irish discus thrower. She represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at three Olympic Games (1988, 1992, 1996) and won silver medals at the Commonwealth Games in 1990 and the Universiade in 1993. Career Born in Belfast, McKernan was a member of the City of Lisburn Athletics Club. She finished 18th in qualifying at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, before going on to win a silver medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games representing Norther Ireland, with a throw of 54.86 metres. She then finished 28th in qualifying at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. McKernan's personal best throw is 60.72 metres, achieved when winning the silver medal at the Universiade on 17 July 1993 in Buffalo. Philippa Kate Roles OLY (1 March 1978 – 21 May 2017) was a Wales, Welsh discus thrower who competed at two Olympic Games, Olympic and four Commonwealth Games. Roles was British junior athlete of the year – an honour presented at Buckingham Palace. She was the first British discus thrower to medal at junior European level; and narrowly missed out on a medal at under 23 level, finishing 4th. She competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Born in Neath, she studied at Neath Port Talbot College from where she gained her degree, and was resident in London. Roles worked for the train operating company Southern (train operating company), Southern as a train driver on services in South London.
