Tracy (name)
Tracy (; also spelled Tracey, Traci, Tracci, or Tracie, or Trasci), as a British personal name, was originally adopted from Norman surnames such as those of the family ''de Tracy'' or ''de Trasci'' from Tracy-Bocage in Normandy, France. Derived from the Gaulish male name ''Draccios'', or Latin ''Thracius'' ("of Thrace, Thracian"), and the well-identified Celtic suffix '' -āko'' ("place, property"), such Norman surnames themselves sprung from several Tracy place-names in France. The Irish surname Tracey, which may similarly have contributed to the adoption of the English personal name, is derived from the native Irish O'Treasaigh septs. The name is taken from the Irish word "treasach" meaning "war-like" or "fighter". It is also translated as "higher", "more powerful" or "superior". It may also be derived from the Irish word for three, with an association to the Tuatha Dé Danann. The first reference to the surname in the Irish Annals was in 1008: "Gussan, son of Ua Treassach, lord ...

Tracy City, Tennessee
Tracy City is a town in Grundy County, Tennessee, United States. Incorporated in 1915, the population was 1,481 at the 2010 census. Named after financier Samuel Franklin Tracy, the city developed out of railroad and mining interests after coal was found in 1840. In 2010 the people of Tracy City elected a dead man, Carl Robin Geary, as mayor. History In 1840 local boys digging a groundhog out of the ground discovered coal. In the early 1870s Tracy City an experimental blast furnace was built by Samuel Jones and owned by the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company. The furnace, called "Fiery Gizzard", was built to see if local coal would be used to produce iron. The furnace made 15 tons of iron before the stovepipe fell on the third day. The former location of the furnace is marked with a historical marker. The coke ovens at Tracy City supplied railroad and industrial fuel and workers and their families moved into the area in great numbers from 1875 until 1900. By 1910 the in ...

Tracey (film)
''Tracey'' is a 2018 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Jun Li and starring Philip Keung as the titular protagonist, a 51-year-old married man and father whose craving for feminization increases, leading him to transition from male to female both mentally and physically. Tracy Thermal Generating Station
The Tracy Thermal Generating Station is a retired 660-megawatt heavy fuel oil-fueled thermal power station built from 1962 by the Shawinigan Water & Power Company and completed by Hydro-Québec after the buyout of all private electric utilities by the government of Quebec in 1963. Commissioned between 1964 and 1968, the plant is located on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River in the city of Sorel-Tracy, in the Montérégie Region. Mainly used as a peaker plant, the Tracy facility was usually running during cold spells in the winter. It was sometimes operated year-round to supplement hydroelectric generation during low-water years. Although it was operated only sporadically, the generating station has been criticized for its contribution to air pollution as it was one of Quebec's major sources of carbon dioxide (), sulfur dioxide (), nitrogen oxides () and particulates (PM). Some commentators have accused Hydro-Québec of unnecessarily operating the Tracy thermal plant to exp ...

Tracy (Mogwai Song)
"Tracy" is a song on the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai's 1997 debut album, ''Mogwai Young Team''. The song was written by the band's guitarists Stuart Braithwaite and John Cummings and bassist Dominic Aitchison prior to the 1997 ''Mogwai Young Team'' recording sessions. The song features glockenspiel, guitar, guitar and drums, bookended by a sample from a phone call between Stuart Braithwaite and Will Simon (an employee of the band's American record label, Jet Set) and between the band's drummer Martin Bulloch and Colin Hardie (the band's manager at the time), revolving around a fictional disagreement between Braithwaite and Aitchison. The song differs from the genre the band usually employed at the time, known as "serious guitar music"; instead of being predominantly guitar-based and featuring heavy dynamic contrast, it features a glockenspiel ostinato, remaining dynamically quiet throughout. "Tracy" received mostly positive reception from music journalists, with album reviews p ...

Tracie (album)
''Tracie'' is the third and final studio album by R&B singer Tracie Spencer released on June 29, 1999. It was her first album in nine years on Capitol Records. The primary reason for the length of time between her studio albums was due to Capitol's constant changes. At the time, the label went through several CEO's and eventually shut down their urban music division from 1996-1999. When the record label got a new president in former Arista Records executive Roy Lott, he revived Capitol's long-struggling urban music division. Spencer acknowledged the changes within Capitol in the liner notes of ''Tracie''. She stated: ''"I have seen a lot of changes occur at the tower, but that's just the way life goes. I have nothing but love and respect for my record company. Change is good"''. Although this is Spencer's first album in nearly a decade, this was not her first recording of new material. She recorded a couple of songs for the soundtracks of two films from the late 1990s. She sang "I ...

Tracie (singer)
Tracie Young (often just billed as Tracie; born 25 March 1965) is a former English pop singer in the 1980s. She achieved success after becoming a protégée of Paul Weller. Career Born in Derby, England, Young was discovered by The Jam frontman, Paul Weller, through an advertisement in ''Smash Hits'' magazine for his Respond Records label. The ad solicited demo tapes from female singers between the ages of 18 and 24, for the purpose of hiring a vocalist alongside the group The Questions. Although just 17 years old, Young replied and sent Weller a cassette of a Phoebe Snow-inspired version of the Betty Wright hit "Shoorah Shoorah". Young's tape was singled out from among the hundreds received, and shortly thereafter was invited to London for an audition. Performing old soul numbers " Band of Gold" and " Reach Out (I'll Be There)" for the audition, Young impressed Weller enough to win the job and become his priority signing for the Respond label. Before recording solo work for Res ...

Tracy Glacier (Greenland)
Tracy Glacier ( da, Tracy Gletscher), is a glacier in northwestern Greenland. Administratively it belongs to the Avannaata municipality. This glacier was named by Robert Peary after Benjamin F. Tracy (1830 – 1915), United States Secretary of the Navy, who granted him three years' leave in order to engage in Arctic explorations. Geography The Tracy Glacier discharges from the Greenland Ice Sheet into the head of the Inglefield Fjord just east of Josephine Peary Island. Its terminus lies between two nunataks. Mount Lee, the northern one, separates it from the Farquhar Glacier to the northwest and a larger nunatak, the Smithson Range, separates it from the Heilprin Glacier to the south. Although the Tracy Glacier is contiguous to the Heilprin Glacier, both glaciers have a different nature, a fact which has been a source of puzzlement for scientists for over a century.
