Trace (Died Pretty Album)
''Trace'' is the fifth album by Australian rock band Died Pretty. It was released in 1993. The album was the most commercially successful of the band's career, peaking at No.11 on the ARIA album charts, while a single, "Harness Up" (August 1993), peaked at No.35. A four-track EP, "Caressing Swine" (June), and two other singles, "Headaround" (November) and "A State of Graceful Mourning" (December), failed to chart. Despite its commercial success, singer and songwriter Ron Peno has expressed disappointment with it. In a 1995 interview he said: "There were some nice moments on ''Trace'', and there were some moments that fell short of the mark. Some songs that just didn't quite get there. It was a valiant attempt, but it didn't make it. Out of all the songs that came from ''Trace'', we only perform one with any regularity, and that's 'Harness Up'. Died Pretty
Died Pretty, sometimes The Died Pretty, is an Australian alternative rock band founded by mainstays Ron Peno (lead singer) and Brett Myers (lead guitarist and backing vocalist) in Sydney in 1983. The band was briefly called Final Solution. Their music started from a base of early electric Bob Dylan with psychedelic influences, including The Velvet Underground and Television. They were managed by John Needham, who is the owner of Citadel Records, their main label. Died Pretty's 1990s albums, '' Doughboy Hollow'', ''Trace'' and '' Sold'', appeared on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Charts but they had more success on the alternative scene. Ron Peno
Ronald "Ron" Stephen Peno (born mid 1950s), who also performed as Ronnie Pop, is an Australian rock singer, he fronted Died Pretty, from 1984 to 2002, he was a member of early punk band the Hellcats (1976–77), and followed with the 31st (in Brisbane, 1979–81) and Screaming Tribesmen (1981). Biography Ron Peno was born in the mid 1950s in Gosford. He attended secondary school in Narrabri where he made up a band name, Virgin Frogs, he later explained " twas just something I had in the country, I made up a band name. A very left field thing to do. I put it into 'Sounds Blasts' (music column.) My friend and I were at school in Narribri and put it in to see if they'd print it." Caroline Lavelle
Caroline Lavelle is an English singer-songwriter and cellist who has created three solo albums and contributed vocals, music, and production help to many other artists and bands. Career Lavelle studied at the Royal College of Music in London. Throughout the early to mid-eighties she busked in the city, often outside Kensington Tube Station and Covent Garden, playing baroque music with Anne Stephenson and Virginia Astley (or Virginia Hewes; sources are confused) in a group called ''Humouresque''. She was spotted by Frankie Gavin, a member of Ireland's De Dannan band, who asked her to join. She was part of the band up to the early nineties, alongside Mary Black and Dolores Keane. In 1992, she contributed vocals and cello to the track "Home of the Whale" on the Massive Attack EP ''Hymn of the Big Wheel''. ''Using My Gills as a Roadmap'' is the seventh album by Australian rock band Died Pretty. The album, their second working with producer Wayne Connolly, was released in 1998. Guitarist and co-songwriter Brett Myers said the album marked a return to more experimental work, with little concern about the potential for radio airplay. "We all made a conscious decision to do something different with this album that we hadn't done before," he said. "We wanted to make songs that didn't have such rigid structures and to get away from the pop groove we'd fallen into a bit in the past." He said the album was also the one the band had taken most charge of in the production process. "It's a hell of a lot more work—we couldn't lounge around and relax as much. The ARIA Charts are the main Australian music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The charts are a record of the highest selling songs and albums in various genres in Australia. ''Sold'' is the sixth album by Australian rock band Died Pretty. It was released in 1996 and peaked at No. 29 in the ARIA album charts. The album was the last to include drummer, Nick Kennedy, who left during recording; he was replaced in the sessions by Shane Melder, on loan from Sidewinder. It was co-produced by former Radio Birdman vocalist Rob Younger, who had produced the band's 1986 debut ''Free Dirt'', and Wayne Connolly, who went on to co-produce their next two albums. Singer and song co-writer Ron Peno said the album's lyrics, inspired by the departure of his long-time girlfriend, were very personal.
