Toyoura District, Yamaguchi
(Japan > Yamaguchi Prefecture > Toyoura District) was a district located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. The district area covered the city of Shimonoseki (excluding the former villages of Tamaki and Yoshida in Mine District) and Toyotamae in the city of Mine. As of 2003, the district had an estimated population of 47,259. The total area was 491.72 km2. Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi
is a city located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. With a population of 265,684, it is the largest city in Yamaguchi Prefecture and the fifth-largest city in the Chūgoku region. It is located at the southwestern tip of Honshu facing the Tsushima Strait at the entrance to the Kanmon Straits (also known as the Straits of Shimonoseki) across from the city of Kitakyushu and the island of Kyushu. was a district located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. On March 20, 2008, the day before its dissolution, the district consisted solely of the towns of Mitō (美東町) and Shūhō (秋芳町). Hikoshima
(also called in Nihon Shoki) is an island on the south-west tip of Honshu, Japan. Geography The island is irregularly shaped and hilly. The strait, as narrow as , separates the island form the main island of Honshu. The parts of sprawling city of Shimonoseki occupy the most of the island, making it the most populous minor island in Yamaguchi Prefecture, albeit only sixth in size by area.
