Toyota Championships
The Colgate Series Championships, later named the Toyota Championships were the finales in an annual series of professional women's tennis tournaments for women from 1977 through 1982. The best singles and doubles players of the circuit, based on ranking points earned, qualified for the championships. During those years, the women's tour included a US indoor circuit winter tour finale, called the Virginia Slims Championships in 1977-78 and the Avon Championships in the 1979-82 period, as well as the global world tour finale, held in the US fall season, and called the Colgate Series Championships in 1977-80 and the Toyota Series Championships in 1981-82. WTA Tour
The WTA Tour is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for women organized by the Women's Tennis Association. The second-tier tour is the WTA 125K series, and third-tier is the ITF Women's Circuit. The men's equivalent is the ATP Tour. The 1981 Toyota Series Championships was a women's tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts at the Byrne Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey in the United States that was the season-ending tournament of the 1981 Toyota World Championship Series. It was the fifth edition of the tournament and was held from December 15 through December 20, 1981. Third-seeded Tracy Austin won the singles title and earned $75,000 first-prize money. Pamela Howard Shriver (born July 4, 1962) is an American former professional tennis player and current tennis broadcaster and pundit. During the 1980s and 1990s, Shriver won 133 titles, including 21 singles titles, 111 women's doubles titles, and one mixed doubles title. This includes 22 major titles, 21 in women's doubles and one in mixed doubles. Shriver also won an Olympic gold medal in women's doubles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, partnering Zina Garrison. Shriver and regular doubles partner Martina Navratilova are the only women's pair to complete the Grand Slam in a calendar year, winning all four majors in 1984. Casals earned her reputation as a rebel in the tennis world when she began competing in the early 1960s. Helen Gourlay Cawley (''née'' Gourlay; born 23 December 1946) is a retired tennis player from Australia. Personal Helen Gourlay was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. She married Richard Leon Cawley in January 1977, and married William Timothy Cape in October 1986.
