Toxotes Blythii
''Toxotes blythii'', the clouded archerfish or zebra archerfish, is a perciform fish of genus ''Toxotes''. It is found in rivers and estuaries in Myanmar, ranging from the lower Irrawaddy to the Tenasserim Division, including lower Sittaung and Salween. Unlike some other archerfish, it is restricted to fresh water. This species was formerly thought to be identical to ''T. microlepis'' (smallscale archerfish). However, differences in structure and colouration caused the splitting of ''T. blythii'' into a new species. It is sometimes seen in the aquarium trade, but is generally rare.Practical Fishkeeping (23 February 2011). Clouded archerfish, Toxotes blythii.' Retrieved 8 March 2015. Description For a while, ''Toxotes blythii'' was confused with ''Toxotes microlepis'' until key characteristics that separated them into different species were found. In ''Toxotes blythii,'' the depth of body is not half of the total length (without caudal tail), the fourth dorsal spine is about th ...

Archer Fish
The archerfish (spinner fish or archer fish) form a monotypic family, Toxotidae, of fish known for their habit of preying on land-based insects and other small animals by shooting them down with water droplets from their specialized mouths. The family is small, consisting of ten species in a single genus, ''Toxotes''. Most species live in fresh water rivers, streams and pools, but two or three are euryhaline, inhabiting both fresh and brackish water habitats such as estuaries and mangroves. They can be found from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, through Southeast Asia, to Northern Australia and Melanesia. Archerfish or spinnerfish bodies are deep and laterally compressed, with the dorsal fin, and the profile a straight line from dorsal fin to mouth. The mouth is protractile, and the lower jaw juts out. Sizes are fairly small, typically up to about , but ''T. chatareus'' can reach . Archerfish are popular for aquaria, but difficult to feed since they prefer live prey. Capture ...

Toxotes Chatareus
''Toxotes chatareus'', sometimes known by the common names common archerfish, seven-spot archerfish or largescale archerfish, is a species of perciform fish in the archerfish genus ''Toxotes''.Martin F. Gomon & Dianne J. Bray (2011Sevenspot Archerfish, Toxotes chatareus Fishes of Australia. Retrieved 29 Aug 2014 They are usually no larger than but may grow up to . Unlike most archerfish, ''T. chatareus'' are sooty rather than silvery in colour. They are omnivorous, feeding on insects, fish, and vegetative matter at the surface of the water. Breeding occurs in the wet season, and 20,000 to 150,000 eggs may be laid at one time. ''T. chatareus'' are distributed throughout southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific and Australia. They may live in brackish or fresh water, inhabiting mangrove swamps and estuaries as well as further upstream in slow-moving rivers. While occasionally caught and eaten, ''T. chatareus'' are more commonly kept in the aquarium. They may be sold wit ...

Banded Archerfish
The banded archerfish (''Toxotes jaculatrix'') is a brackish water perciform fish of the archerfish genus ''Toxotes''. It is silvery in colour and has a dorsal fin towards the posterior end. It has distinctive, semi-triangular markings along its sides. It is best known for its ability to spit a jet of water to "shoot down" prey. Larger specimens may be able to hit prey away. The banded archerfish may reach the displaced prey within 50 milliseconds of its hitting the water. The name (binomial as well as common) refers to Sagittarius the archer, because of the unusual method banded archerfish use to capture prey. Banded archerfish are found in Indo-Pacific and Oceanian waters, generally in river mouths and mangrove estuaries. They move between fresh, salt, and brackish water over the course of their lifetime, though not to breed. Because of their markings and silvery colour, banded archerfish are sometimes kept as aquarium fish, though they are difficult to care for and not rec ...

Smallscale Archerfish
The smallscale archerfish (''Toxotes microlepis'') is a perciform fish of genus ''Toxotes''. As its name suggests, the scales of the smallscale archerfish are smaller than those of other archerfish. They reach a maximum length of . Smallscale archerfish live in the tropical Indo-Pacific region and are potamodromous, moving between fresh and brackish water through their lifetimes. Description Smallscale archerfish have a pointed snout and large eyes. The back is flat and the belly is curved. There is only one dorsal fin, with four to five dorsal spines. The fourth spine is longer than the third. The second dorsal spine is slightly shorter than the third anal spine, which itself is shorter than the soft rays. There are usually 40 to 42 lateral line scales, though some specimens found in the Mekong had 34 to 37. The species '' T. blythii'' was formerly thought to be identical to ''T. microlepis''. Differences in structure and colouration caused the splitting of ''T. blythii'' into ...

Toxotai
Toxotai (; singular: , ) were Ancient Greek and Byzantine archers. During the ancient period they were armed with a short Greek bow and a short sword. They carried a little pelte (or pelta) () shield. ''Hippotoxotai'' (ἱπποτοξόται) were mounted archers and rode ahead of the cavalry. The term ''toxotes'' was used to describe the mythic Sagittarius, a legendary creature thought to be a centaur. Unlike cavalry or hoplites, toxotai tended to come from the lower classes of citizens, at least in Athens Athens ( ; el, Αθήνα, Athína ; grc, Ἀθῆναι, Athênai (pl.) ) is both the capital and largest city of Greece.
