Towradgi () is a small beach-side suburb approximately north of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Towradgi is derived from the Dharawal word ''Kow-radgi'', meaning "guardian of the sacred stones". On an early map it was called Towroger. Towradgi is served by electric trains at Towradgi railway station, opened in 1948. Towradgi is bordered to the north by Corrimal, the west by Fernhill and Tarrawanna, and to the south by Fairy Meadow. The Pacific Ocean can be found to the east. Towradgi has also come to incorporate much of the former suburb of Reidtown (to the south-west), some of which has also been incorporated into Fairy Meadow. The South Coast Railway (also known as the Illawarra Railway) is a commuter and goods railway line from Sydney to Wollongong and Bomaderry in New South Wales, Australia. Wollongong ( ), colloquially referred to as The Gong, is a city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Thirroul Railway Station
Thirroul railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the South Coast railway line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the northern Wollongong suburb of Thirroul. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History In the 1870s when settlement of the area began, all the area north of Wollongong was known as Bulli and Thirroul was called North Bulli. Before white settlement the area was the land of the Thurrural tribe. There were many different ways of spelling the name which translates to "the place or valley of the cabbage tree palms". Robbinsville was a former name for the village of Thirroul. The village was called Robbinsville after Frederick Robbins, who owned land in the area. The name was adopted at a meeting of inhabitants of the area in February 1880. Port Kembla is a single-platform intercity train terminal located in Port Kembla, Australia, on the South Coast railway line's Port Kembla branch. The station serves NSW TrainLink trains traveling north to Wollongong and Sydney. The station also serves as a stabling location for South Coast line trains. History The wharves, mills and factories that today characterise Port Kembla began to develop in the early part of the 20th century.
