Town And Country (album)
''Town and Country'' is the second studio album by rock band Humble Pie, released in November 1969. It was released only in the UK. Background Conceived at band member Steve Marriott's 16th-century rural cottage "Arkesden" in Moreton, Essex, England, ''Town and Country'' offered a more pastoral approach than the more straightforward "heavy" progressive sound prevalent on their debut album, which had been released two months earlier. Like the band's early live shows, which opened with an acoustic set before returning with electric guitars in the second half of the show, ''Town and Country'' displayed a mix of acoustic ballads, country-rock, folk, blues, and hard rock. Unlike the debut LP, all four members of the band contributed solo compositions to the album. Humble Pie are an English rock band formed by guitarist and singer Steve Marriott in Moreton, Essex, in 1969. They are known as one of the first supergroups of the late 1960s and found success in the early 1970s with songs such as " Black Coffee", " 30 Days in the Hole", " I Don't Need No Doctor", "Hot 'n' Nasty" and " Natural Born Bugie". The B-side "Cold Lady" was written by drummer Jerry Shirley in a R&B style and Shirley plays Wurlitzer piano and guitarist Peter Frampton plays the drums. Although released in a number of European countries, including West Germany and the Netherlands, it was not made available in the United Kingdom or other worldwide territories. The first live performance of this song by the band, was during their appearance at the beginning of the Bilzen Festival in Belgium, on 29 August 1969. Norman Petty (May 25, 1927 – August 15, 1984) was an American musician, record producer, publisher, radio station owner, and considered to be one of the founding fathers of early rock & roll. Biography Petty was born in the small town of Clovis, New Mexico. He began playing piano at a young age. While in high school, he regularly performed on a 15-minute show on a local radio station. After his graduation in 1945, he was drafted into the United States Air Force. When he returned, he married his high-school sweetheart Violet Ann Brady on June 20, 1948. The couple lived briefly in Dallas, Texas, where Petty worked as a part-time engineer at a recording studio. Eventually, they moved back to their hometown of Clovis. Bob Montgomery (May 12, 1937 – December 4, 2014) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer and publisher. Biography Montgomery was born in Lampasas, Texas, United States. He was a songwriting partner and best friend of Buddy Holly, performing together as the duo "Buddy and Bob" while teenagers in high school. Initially, they played a variety of bluegrass music, which evolved into rockabilly sounds. Montgomery met Holly at Hutchinson Junior High School in Lubbock, Texas, in 1949. They started playing together at school assemblies and on local radio shows. Montgomery sang lead and Holly harmonized. They soon had a weekly Sunday radio show on station KDAV. Glyn Thomas Johns (born 15 February 1942) is an English musician, recording engineer and record producer. Biography Early history Johns was born in Epsom, Surrey, England. He had three siblings, two older sisters and a younger brother, Andy. When Johns was 8 years old his mother enrolled him in the parish church choir where he eventually became head chorister.
