Tower East
Tower East is a high-rise office building in Shaker Heights, Ohio. At , it is the tallest building in the city. Tower East was the last building in the United States designed by architect Walter Gropius. Gropius designed this building during his tenure with The Architect's Collaborative (TAC). BGK Equities of Santa Fe, New Mexico, purchased the building for $12.68 million in 2000. In 2015, it was sold to E2G, an affiliate of the Equity Engineering Group, Inc. Shaker Heights is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the city population was 29,439. Shaker Heights is an inner-ring streetcar suburb of Cleveland, abutting the eastern edge of the city's limits. In July 1911, a petition by property owners was successful in detaching a long strip of land from the south of Cleveland Heights, to be named Shaker Village. In November 1911, the voters of Shaker Village formed Shaker Heights Village, which was incorporated in January 1912. It is the birthplace of the actor Paul Newman. Shaker Heights was a planned community developed by the Van Sweringen brothers, railroad moguls who envisioned the community as a suburban retreat from the industrial inner city of Cleveland. Modernism is both a philosophy, philosophical and arts movement that arose from broad transformations in Western world, Western society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
