Toward The Unknown
''Toward the Unknown'', originally called ''Flight Test Center'' and titled ''Brink of Hell'' in its UK release, is a 1956 American war film about the dawn of supersonic flight filmed on location at Edwards Air Force Base. Starring William Holden, Lloyd Nolan and Virginia Leith, the film features the screen debut of James Garner. ''Toward the Unknown'' was directed by Mervyn LeRoy and written by Beirne Lay, Jr. who had also penned the novel and screenplay for ''Twelve O'Clock High'' (1949), and later screenplays for '' Above and Beyond'' (1952) and ''Strategic Air Command'' (1955). Mervyn LeRoy
Mervyn LeRoy (; October 15, 1900 – September 13, 1987) was an American film director and producer. In his youth he played juvenile roles in vaudeville and silent film comedies. During the 1930s, LeRoy was one of the two great practitioners of economical and effective film directing at Warner Brothers studios, the other his cohort Michael Curtiz. LeRoy's most acclaimed films of his tenure at Warners include '' Little Caesar'' (1931), ''I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang'' (1932), ''Gold Diggers of 1933'' (1933) and ''They Won't Forget'' (1937). Jonathan Bion Provost (born March 12, 1950) is an American actor, best known for his role as young Timmy Martin in the CBS series '' Lassie''. Life and career Provost was born in Los Angeles. At the age of four, Provost was cast in the film '' The Country Girl'' (1954), starring Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. Ralph Moody (November 5, 1886 – September 6, 1971 ) was an American actor with over 50 movie and over 100 television appearances, plus numerous radio appearances. Moody spent more than four decades working in stock theater throughout the United States, including having his own troupe for almost half of that span. In 1939, he began working in radio at WIBW in Topeka, Kansas. Later, he became an announcer and actor at WLW radio in Cincinnati. Early life McGraw was born to Beatrice (née Crisp) and Francis P. Butters in Des Moines, Iowa.
