Tove (film)
''Tove'' is a 2020 Finnish biographical film about Swedish-speaking Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomins. The film was directed by Zaida Bergroth from a script by Eeva Putro, and stars Alma Pöysti in the titular role. The film's budget, at €3.4 million, made it the second most expensive Finnish film, following the 2017 version of ''The Unknown Soldier''. ''Tove'' was released to critical acclaim, and was selected as the Finnish entry for the Best International Feature Film award at the 93rd Academy Awards, but was not nominated. Zaida Bergroth
Zaida Bergroth (born 8 February 1977) is a Finnish film director best known for her 2020 film ''Tove''. Career Bergroth was born in Kivijärvi in 1977. She graduated from the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in 2004. Her first feature, ''Last Cowboy Standing'' was released in 2009. In 2019 it was announced that she would direct a biopic on the Moomin author Tove Jansson, titled Tove, which would be released in 2020. 93rd Academy Awards
The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored films released from January 1, 2020, to February 28, 2021, at Union Station in Los Angeles. The Jussi Awards are Finland's premier film industry prizes, awarded annually to recognize the achievements of directors, actors, and writers. History The first Jussi Awards ceremony was held on 16 November 1944 at the Restaurant Adlon in Helsinki. The award is one of the oldest films awards in Europe. The original planned name for the prize was ''Aino'', but Jussi won in the end. The name comes from a character in the 1924 and 1936 Pohjalaisia films. The awards were originally organized by the ''Elokuvajournalistit'' organization, but the task was transferred in the early 1960s to the ''Filmiaura'' organization, composed of around 300 members working in the Finnish film industry. Because of the controversy surrounding the transfer, no awards were handed out in 1960 and 1961. Lars Fredrik Jansson (8 October 1926 Helsinki – 31 July 2000 Helsinki) was a Finnish author and cartoonist. Early life A native of Helsinki, Jansson was the son of a sculptor, Viktor Jansson, and a Swedish-born illustrator, Signe Hammarsten-Jansson. His siblings included an older sister, writer Tove Jansson, and an older brother, photographer Per Olov Jansson. In 1958, he began working with his sister on the writing of the ''Moomin'' comic strip, which he drew from 1961 to 1974. Between 1990 and 1992, Jansson worked with Dennis Livson to develop the concept of the ''Moomin'' animated series in Japan. His daughter, Sophia, worked together with him in 1993 to help manage the production of a new series of Moomin strips which Sophia now manages solely. ''Kajsa'' Anna-Karin Linnéa Ernst, (born 4 August 1962) is a Swedish actress. She started acting at the age of sixteen at Nöjesteatern in Malmö and studied at Teaterhögskolan in Malmö. Viktor Bernhard "Faffan" Jansson (1 March 1886 in Helsinki – 22 June 1958 in Helsinki) was a Finnish sculptor belonging to the Swedish-speaking minority of Finland. Early life Jansson was born in Helsinki in 1886 to Julius Viktor Jansson and Johanna Theresia (Karlsson). His father worked at the Stockmann department store, later owning a haberdashery store. His father died when Jansson was six. He married the illustrator Signe Hammarsten-Jansson and they had three children: the writer Tove Jansson, photographer Per Olov Jansson, and Lars Jansson, an author and comic strip artist. Starting from 1929 Viktor Jansson created several drafts for sculptures picturing young women, one of which is called Convolvulus. Ida Helmi Tuulikki Pietilä (18 February 1917 – 23 February 2009) was an American-born Finnish graphic artist and professor. Pietilä is considered one of Finland's most influential graphic artists, with her work being shown in multiple art exhibitions. She worked as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, and later trained graphic artists and wrote multiple books about graphic arts. Vivica Aina Fanny Bandler (5 February 1917 – 30 July 2004) was a Finnish-Swedish theatre director and agronomist. She bought a theatre (''Lilla Teatern'') in Helsinki in 1955 and is credited for popularizing avant-garde Finnish theatre.
