The ''Tournoi de France'' (French, 'Tournament of France') was a friendly international football tournament held in France in early February 1988. Four national teams participated in the competition: Austria, Morocco, hosts France, and Switzerland. It was a knockout tournament played over three days in Toulouse and Monaco. The final and third-place play-off were held in Monaco, which is a country independent of France. There have been two tournaments: the first in February 1988 and the second in June 1997 (as a warm-up to the 1998 FIFA World Cup). Austria, Switzerland, Morocco and hosts France were the four participants of the first edition that was won by France after beating Morocco 2-1 in the final; and Italy, Brazil, England and hosts France were the four participants of the second edition, which was won by England with 6 points. Michel Vautrot
Michel Jean Maurice Vautrot (born 23 October 1945 in Saint-Vit, Doubs) is a retired football (soccer) referee from France. He is mostly known for officiating five matches in the FIFA World Cup: two in 1982 and three in 1990. He refereed the Club World Cup final in 1983 on National Stadium Tokyo between Hamburg S.V. (West Germany) and Grêmio F.B.P.A. (Brazil). He refereed three matches in the European Championship, one in 1984 and two in 1988, including the final between the Soviet Union and the Netherlands. In addition, he refereed the 1986 European Cup Final between Steaua Bucharest and Barcelona. In 1986, Roma president Dino Viola was banned by UEFA for bribing referee Vautrot with £50,000 prior to the European Cup semi-final 2nd leg between Roma and Dundee United in 1984. Yannick Stopyra (born 9 January 1961) is a French former footballer who played as a striker. He amassed Ligue 1 totals of 455 matches and 130 goals in representation of six teams, mainly Sochaux and Toulouse, in a 17-year professional career. Stopyra appeared for France at the 1986 World Cup. Club career Born in Troyes, Aube of Polish ancestry, Stopyra spent 15 of his 17 seasons as a professional in Ligue 1, representing FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, Stade Rennais FC, Toulouse FC, FC Girondins de Bordeaux, AS Cannes and FC Metz. He made his senior debut with the former at only 17, helping it to the second position in the domestic championship in 1979–80 and the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup the following campaign. The Stade Louis II () is a stadium located in the Fontvieille district of Monaco. It serves primarily as a venue for football, being the home of AS Monaco and the Monaco national football team. The stadium is most notable for its distinctive nine arches at the away end of the ground. The arena is also used for the Herculis, a track and field meet of the Diamond League. Alain Geiger (born 5 November 1960) is a Swiss international football manager and a former defender. He is the current manager for Servette FC. He played mainly as a centre-back despite being only 1.80m in a career that lasted 20 years, and made 112 appearances at international level, being Switzerland's second most capped player behind Heinz Hermann.
