Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. County Sligo
County Sligo ( , gle, Contae Shligigh) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the Border Region and is part of the province of Connacht. Sligo is the administrative capital and largest town in the county. Sligo County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 65,535 at the 2016 census. Gerry McGowan (Gaelic Footballer)
Gerry McGowan is Gaelic football coach and former player. He played for the Tourlestrane club and the Sligo county team. He won a Connacht Senior Football Championship with his county as a player in 2007. McGowan served as a Sligo selector under the management of Cathal Corey in 2018. With Eamonn O'Hara, he was joint manager of the Tourlestrane club that completed five consecutive Sligo Senior Football Championship titles in September 2020. He joined Clare manager Colm Collins's backroom team as a coach ahead of the 2021 season. He had left Clare by the end of the 2022 season. Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat). ''The Clare Champion'' is a weekly local newspaper in Ennis, County Clare, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It was founded in 1903 after ''The Clare Man'' was forced to close. Eamonn O'Hara
Eamonn O'Hara (born 6 September 1975) was until 2013 the longest-serving Gaelic footballer at senior level. He first played in 1994 before officially announcing his retirement from inter-county football on 14 May 2013. He plays for his local club Tourlestrane and, though he also played at senior level for the Sligo county team, where he was a long-serving talisman. O'Hara still won one All Star during his career and was twice called up for Ireland in the International Rules Series. Since retiring, he has become involved in punditry and management. Playing career O'Hara has had some success with his club team Tourlestrane, winning eight Sligo Senior Football Championships – in 1994, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013. The Sligo Senior Hurling Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Sligo GAA among the top hurling clubs in County Sligo.
