Tosca Kramer
Tosca Berger Kramer (June 17, 1903 – December 27, 1976) was a New Zealand-born United States, American violinist and viola, violist. Kramer, along with her parents, was instrumental in bringing classical music performance and instruction to the state of Oklahoma. Tosca Berger was the daughter of Kurt and Lucy Berger. Her father was an eminent conducting, conductor and her mother an Impressionism, Impressionist painting, painter. As a youth Tosca studied violin with Willy Hess (violinist), Willy Hess and Eugène Ysaÿe, earning a Diploma from the Royal Conservatory at Sondershausen in Thuringia, Germany. The young New Zealander quickly established herself as a solo concert artist. Fredell Lack (February 19, 1922 – August 20, 2017) was an American violinist. Noted as a concert soloist, recording artist, chamber musician, and teacher, she was the C. W. Moores Distinguished Professor of Violin at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Early life and musical training Fredell Lack was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the oldest of three children of Jewish Eastern European (Latvian) immigrants, Abram I. Lack and Sarah Stillman Lack (who was a sister of noted painter Ary Stillman). She began violin lessons at age six, studying with Tosca Berger. Viola D'amore
The viola d'amore (; Italian for "viol of love") is a 7- or 6- stringed musical instrument with sympathetic strings used chiefly in the baroque period. It is played under the chin in the same manner as the violin. Structure and sound The viola d'amore shares many features of the viol family. It looks like a thinner treble viol without frets and sometimes with sympathetic strings added. Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a palace chamber or a large room.
