Torsten Gütschow
Torsten Gütschow (born 28 July 1962) is a German football manager and former player who played as a striker. He is most associated with Dynamo Dresden, with whom he had two successful spells, playing top level football in East Germany and after reunification. In between these he played for three other German clubs, and spent six months with Galatasaray of the Turkish Süper Lig. A strong and instinctive goalscorer, Gütschow was top scorer in each of the last three seasons of the DDR-Oberliga, and was the last East German Footballer of the Year. He won three international caps for East Germany, scoring two goals between 1984 and 1989. Since retiring he has taken up coaching, and has been manager of TuS Heeslingen. 1978–79 DDR-Oberliga
The 1978–79 DDR-Oberliga was the 30th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. BFC Dynamo won the championship, the club's first of ten consecutive East German championships. Joachim Streich of 1. FC Magdeburg was the league's top scorer of he lague with 23 goals. Streich also took out the seasons East German Footballer of the year award. BFC Dynamo broke four records for the DDR-Oberliga during the season. The team set a new record for the number of consecutive matches won at the start of a season, by winning its first ten matches. The East German football champions were the annual winners of the DDR-Oberliga. History The 1948 and 1949 East German Champions were determined in a single elimination tournament of three rounds. A nationwide football league, the DDR-Oberliga, was established for the 1949–50 season. The Oberliga was dissolved after the 1990–91 season. The 1954–55 season was a transitional season and neither was a championship awarded nor were clubs relegated. Due to the transition from a fall-spring to a spring-fall schedule starting with 1956, teams only met each other once from August to December 1955. In the 1961–62 season the DDR-Oberliga returned from a spring-fall to fall-spring schedule, the teams thus met each other three times. The third meeting was held on neutral ground. Ulf Kirsten
Ulf Kirsten (born 4 December 1965) is a German former professional footballer who played as a striker. Nicknamed ''Der Schwatte'' (dialect for ''Der Schwarze'', 'The Black One'), he is the first player in history to reach a total 100 caps playing with two different national teams (first for East Germany, then Reunified Germany). Kirsten's biggest success was the victory of the 1992–93 DFB-Pokal. Club career Dynamo Dresden Kirsten began playing football for local team BSG Chemie Riesa in 1972. He joined BSG Stahl Riesa in 1978 before joining the youth academy of Dynamo Dresden in 1979. The 1984–85 DDR-Oberliga was the 36th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. BFC Dynamo won the championship, the club's seventh of ten consecutive East German championships from 1978 to 1988, thereby surpassing the record of six titles jointly held up to then by BFC Dynamo, Dynamo Dresden and FC Vorwärts Berlin. Rainer Ernst of BFC Dynamo was the league's top scorer for the second time in a row with 24 goals, while Hans-Jürgen Dörner of Dynamo Dresden again took out the seasons East German Footballer of the year award. Cap (sport)
In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. The title Footballer of the Year (German: ''Fußballer des Jahres'') has been awarded in Germany since 1960. Eligible are German players as well as non-German players playing in Germany. In 1996, the title Women's Footballer of the Year (German: ''Fußballerin des Jahres'') was awarded for the first time. Both awards are determined by a poll of German football journalists from the Association of German Sports Journalists (''Verband Deutscher Sportjournalisten'') and the publication kicker.
