Torpedo Kutaisi
FC Torpedo Kutaisi is a Georgian professional football club based in Kutaisi, Georgia's third largest city. 'Torpedo Kutaisi' was founded in 1946 and in just three years the club became the winner of the Football Championship of that time. Torpedo's home ground is Ramaz Shengelia Stadium. History The Soviet period FC Torpedo Kutaisi was founded in 1946 on the base of Kutaisi Automotive Plant. In 1949 the club became the winner of the Georgian SSR Championship. In 1959 two football clubs "FC Torpedo Kutaisi" and "FC Locomotive Kutaisi" were united and the name remained "FC Torpedo Kutaisi". In 1962 "FC Torpedo Kutaisi" became a first participant in the Soviet Top League. Ramaz Shengelia Stadium
Ramaz Shengelia Stadium ( ka, რამაზ შენგელიას სტადიონი) is a multi-use stadium in Kutaisi, Georgia used mostly for football matches. It is the home stadium of FC Torpedo Kutaisi. 1980–81 European Cup Winners' Cup of the 1979–80 Copa del Rey.
The 1980–81 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup was won by Dinamo Tbilisi in the final against Carl Zeiss Jena. Dinamo Tbilisi's side defeated English Second Division side West Ham United away before beating Carl Zeiss Jena in a final watched by 4,750 people in Düsseldorf. This win was the high point of the Georgian side and is still the club's greatest achievement. Levan Silagadze
Levan Silagadze ( ka, ლევან სილაგაძე; born 4 August 1976) is a former football defender from Georgia. From 1992 to 1997, he played for the Rustavi clubs Imedi, Azoti and Gorda. In 1997, he was bought by Latvian champion team Skonto FC, who had a Georgian coach Revaz Dzodzuashvili. As Dzodzuashvili left the club in 1999, the future of Silagadze became uncertain, but he rejoined his old coach in various loan moves. In 2001, he played his last cap to date with the Georgian national team, having played 21 times in total since 1997. A somewhat unsuccessful spell in Russian team Rubin Kazan between 2002 and 2003 (despite winning the Russian league bronze in 2003) was followed by a transfer to Dinamo Tbilisi. Malkhaz Asatiani ( ka, მალხაზ ასათიანი; born 4 August 1981) is a Georgian former football defender. He started as an attacking midfielder but his displays at the back earned him a solid reputation as a central defender. Mostly playing as center-back at his club, Asatiani was often used as a playmaker for the national team. His passing, technical skills and eye for decisive goals made him an extremely versatile player. Career Club His club career started in Torpedo Kutaisi. During his stay of three and a half years the team won the Georgian league title three years in a row. He then earned a transfer to Russian team Lokomotiv Moscow. Valeri Abramidze ( ka, ვალერი აბრამიძე; born 17 January 1980) is a former Georgian footballer. He also holds Russian citizenship. Spartak Moscow Abramidze joined FC Spartak Moscow during summer 2002, signed 5-year contract. He made 15 league appearances for Spartak, and 4 2002 UEFA Champions League as well, scoring no goals. Being loaned out to FC Uralan Elista in 2003, he left Spartak for FC Khimki in 2004. Khazar scandal During 2007 summer mid-season, Abramidze had major issues leaving FK Khazar Lenkoran. Georgia National Football Team
The Georgia national football team ( ka, საქართველოს ეროვნული საფეხბურთო ნაკრები, tr) represents the country of Georgia in men's international football matches, and it is controlled by the Georgian Football Federation. The Soviet Second League (russian: Чемпионат СССР по футболу (вторая лига), Soviet football championship (Second League)) was the third highest division of Soviet football, below the Soviet First League. The league was formed in 1971 in place of the Class A Second Group of the Soviet football championship just a year after the division was downgraded to the third tier. Ramaz Shengelia
Ramaz Shengelia ( ka, რამაზ შენგელია; 1 January 1957 – 21 June 2012) was a Georgian and Soviet football player. Club career Born in Kutaisi, Shengelia started career in his hometown club Torpedo Kutaisi in 1968. He spent four seasons for the club, scoring 29 goals in 75 games in the Soviet First League. Shengelia became the top scorer of the club twice. After the successful spell in the second strongest team in Georgian SSR, he was invited to Dinamo Tbilisi in 1977. The head coach of the Tbilisi-based club, Nodar Akhalkatsi arrived to Kutaisi in order to monitor the performance of Shengelia and his other teammate Tamaz Kostava.
