Torpedo is a fictional character from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline, comic books and animated series. He is the G.I. Joe Team's original SEAL and debuted in 1983. Profile His real name is Edward W. Leialoha, and his rank is that of navy chief warrant officer WO-4. Torpedo was born in Aiea, Hawaii. His primary military specialty is Navy SEAL (Sea, Air & Land) and his secondary military specialty is demolitions. Torpedo was originally a scuba instructor and also achieved black belts in the martial arts Wu-Shu, Kenpō and Go-Ju-Ryu by age 19, and is skilled with wielding the Balisong. His training records after completing SEAL school are classified, but he is a qualified expert in most small arms used by NATO as well as explosive devices used by both NATO and Warsaw Pact nations. ''G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero'' (also known as Action Force in the UK) is a military-themed line of action figures and toys in Hasbro's G.I. Joe franchise. The toyline lasted from 1982 to 1994, producing well over 500 figures and 250 vehicles and playsets. The line reappeared in 1997 and has continued in one form or another to the present day. It was supported by two animated series (Sunbow, then DIC Entertainment, DIC) as well as a major comic series published by Marvel Comics. The toyline continues to play a large part in Hasbro's G.I. Joe franchise. This version of G.I. Joe is still much recognized by many people who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s. Origin "A Real American Hero" was brought about as a revival of the original G.I.
