Toronto Neil McNeil Maroons
The Toronto Neil McNeil Maroons were a junior ice hockey team in the Metro Junior A League as part of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) Major Junior Series. The Maroons were operated by Neil McNeil High School in Scarborough, Ontario. The team finished its only season in first place, were coached by Jim Gregory and included prospect players for the Toronto Maple Leafs. History The Toronto Neil McNeil Maroons were formed from the remnants of the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in 1962. The Majors were operated by St. Michael's College School, which withdrew the Majors from the top tier of junior ice hockey in Ontario Hockey Association in June 1961 due to the length of the season impacting academic performance of its student athletes. After the Majors played the 1961–62 OHA season in the Metro Junior A League, the school decided to end the Majors program. Mike Walton
Michael Robert Walton (born January 3, 1945) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Walton played forward in the National Hockey League (NHL) and World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1965 until 1979. Early years Walton was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, but his family lived a transient existence during his youth before settling north of Toronto, Ontario. They operated a restaurant/garage in Sutton, about north of the city. He inherited his nickname "Shakey" from his father, Bob Walton, who would shake his head to throw off opponents as a hockey player in England. Gary Smith (hockey)
Gary Edward Smith (born February 4, 1944) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. Gary is a son of Des Smith and brother of Brian Smith, both former National Hockey League (NHL) players. Smith played for numerous clubs, including the Chicago Black Hawks, Oakland Seals, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets. He was the co-winner of the Vezina Trophy in the 1971–72 NHL season. Rod Seiling
Rodney Albert Seiling (born November 14, 1944) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Rod is the brother of Ric Seiling. Playing career Signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1962, Seiling played only one game with the Leafs and spent most of his time as a Toronto prospect in the minors. The next year, he represented Canada at the 1964 Winter Olympics, where they finished in fourth place. He was traded to the New York Rangers, where he would remain for the next decade, except for a brief claim by the St. Louis Blues in the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft, after which he was immediately traded back to the Rangers. His defensive abilities eventually helped guide the Rangers to the 1972 Stanley Cup Finals. He was a member of Team Canada in the 1972 Summit Series. Gerald Marcus Meehan (born September 3, 1946) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger and the former general manager and Senior Vice President of the Buffalo Sabres. Playing career Meehan was born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in Newmarket, Ontario. He played minor hockey for St. Michael's College School and junior for the Toronto Marlboros. Jim McKenny
James Claude "Howie" McKenny (born December 1, 1946) is a Canadian retired broadcaster and retired professional ice hockey player. Playing as a defenceman, he appeared in 604 NHL regular season games between the Toronto Maple Leafs (594) and Minnesota North Stars (10), including 37 playoff games for the Leafs, and was known by the nickname of 'Howie' due to a resemblance to Howie Young. Known for witty one-liners, McKenny once said of professional ice hockey that "half the game is mental, the other half is being mental". Billy MacMillan
William Stewart MacMillan (born March 7, 1943) is a Canadian former hockey coach and player. MacMillan played and later coached in the National Hockey League (NHL). After several years with the Canadian national team, including playing at two World Championships and the 1968 Winter Olympics, winning a bronze medal, MacMillan made his NHL debut in 1970 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played for Toronto, the Atlanta Flames, and New York Islanders between 1970 and 1977, and retired from playing in 1978. He became a coach during his final year, spent in the minor CHL and moved to the NHL in 1979 when he became an assistant coach for the Islanders. He was named the head coach of the Colorado Rockies in 1980, also serving as general manager the next season.
