Toronto Fire Services (TFS) provides fire protection, technical rescue services, hazardous materials response, and first responder emergency medical assistance in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Toronto Fire Services is currently the largest municipal fire department in Canada. History Fire services in Toronto began in 1874 in the former City of Toronto, and still consisted of volunteer fire companies. Prior to 1874, fire services were composed of poorly trained volunteer companies in the city. The first company was created in 1826 and hook and ladder in 1831. Most were able bodied men who were trained to operate pumps to draw water from the lake. A wooden pumper truck presented to Toronto by British America Assurance Company c.1837 is now found at Black Creek Pioneer Village. The city's poor fire fighting services were highlighted by the Great Toronto Fire in 1849 and again in the Great Fire of Toronto in 1904. Matthew Pegg
Matthew Pegg is a Canadian firefighter currently serving as the fourth and current chief of Toronto Fire Services (TFS) since May 2016. Pegg was also appointed general manager of emergency management for the City of Toronto in 2018. In March 2020, Chief Pegg, as the general manager of the Toronto Office of Emergency Management, was appointed to lead the City of Toronto's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the incident commander for the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the development and operation of the most complex incident management system in Toronto's history, including the longest-ever continuous deployment of the Emergency Operations Centre. The Toronto Entertainment District is an area in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is concentrated around King Street West between University Avenue and Spadina Avenue. It is home to theatres and performing arts centres, the Toronto Blue Jays, and an array of cultural and family attractions. The area was also home to most of the nightclubs in downtown Toronto. They have mostly moved to King St west of Spadina Av just beside the Entertainment District.
