Tornike Eristavi () also known as John Tornikios; el, Ιωάννης Τορνίκιος) (died in 985) was a retired Georgian general and monk who came to be better known as a founder of the formerly Georgian Orthodox Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos in the modern-day northeastern Greece. Life Tornike came from a notable Georgian noble family and was in the immediate circles of the ruling dynasty of the Bagrationi. His father, Chordvaneli, had been in the suite of the Georgian prince Ashot II Kuropalates who had paid a visit to the Byzantine emperor Constantine Porphyrogennetos in Constantinople in c. 950. Three of his nephews had military careers and one of them, Varazvache, held a post of ''katepano'' (military governor) of the significant Byzantine eastern outpost Edessa in 1037–8. Iviron Monastery
The Monastery of Iviron ( ka, ქართველთა მონასტერი, tr; el, Μονή Ιβήρων, Monḗ Ivirōn) is an Eastern Orthodox monastery in the monastic community of Mount Athos in northern Greece. History The monastery was built under the supervision of two Georgian monks, John the Iberian and Tornike Eristavi between AD 980–83 and housed Georgian clergy and priests. It was founded on the site of the former Monastery of Clement. John the Iberian was appointed as the abbot of the newly founded monastery in 980. In 1005, Euthymius the Iberian became the secondary abbot of Iviron Monastery. In Greek, Iviron literally means "of the Iberians". The monastery ranks third in the Athonite hierarchy of 20 sovereign monasteries. Tornike "Toko" Shengelia ( ka, თორნიკე შენგელია; born October 5, 1991) is a Georgian professional basketball player for Virtus Bologna. At a height of 2.06 m (6 ft 9 in) tall, he plays at the power forward position. Shengelia also represents the senior Georgian national team. He earned an All-EuroLeague First Team selection in 2018. On 21 July 2018, he was elected and serves as Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara. Rijvadze was nominated by the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party. Tornike Kipiani ( ka, თორნიკე ყიფიანი; born 11 December 1987) is a Georgian singer. Kipiani started his musical career at the age of 19, forming the band ''The Circular Corner''. In 2012, he auditioned for the Georgian talent show ''Magtifan'' on Maestro (TV channel), Maestro, placing in the top five of the competition. Kipiani also won the first season of ''X Factor Georgia'' in 2014, mentored by Tamta.
