''Tora! Tora! Tora!'' ( ja, トラ・トラ・トラ！) is a 1970 epic film, epic war film that dramatizes the Empire of Japan, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The film was produced by Elmo Williams and directed by Richard Fleischer, Toshio Masuda (director), Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku, and stars an ensemble cast including Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, So Yamamura, E. G. Marshall, E.G. Marshall, James Whitmore, Tatsuya Mihashi, Takahiro Tamura, Wesley Addy, and Jason Robards. It was Masuda and Fukasaku's first English-language film, and first international co-production. The ''tora'' of the title is the two-syllable Japanese language, Japanese Code name, codeword used to indicate that complete surprise had been achieved. The film was released in the United States by Twentieth Century Fox on September 23, 1970, and in Japan by the Toei Company on September 25. "Tora Tora Tora" is a song by Italian singer Domino, released as a single in 1994. The music was written by Bratt Sinclaire. Domino recorded a new version in 2020, titled "Tora Tora Tora (Mix 2.0)", produced by Dave Rodgers. MAX version The Japanese female vocal group MAX released a Japanese cover on their debut album, Maximum. It was composed by Tiger Boys with Japanese lyrics written by Kazumi Suzuki. It was released as their third single and the original version of the song appears on the albums '' Maximum Collection'' (1999), and ''Precious Collection 1995–2002'' (2002). The song is responsible for launching MAX into mainstream stardom, garnering the group their first top 20 single. ''Speak & Spell'' is the debut studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was released on 5 October 1981, or possibly 29 October 1981, by Mute Records. It was the band's only album to feature Vince Clarke, and is much lighter in tone than their subsequent releases. The album peaked at number 10 on the UK Albums Chart, and was ranked number 991 in the 2000 book ''All Time Top 1000 Albums''. Background This was the only Depeche Mode album with Vince Clarke as a member. Clarke wrote most of the songs for the band, before departing to form Yazoo and later Erasure. The album is significantly lighter in tone and melody than their later work, a direction which can largely be attributed to Clarke's writing. After he left, Martin Gore took over songwriting duties, writing almost all of the band's material. Later albums written by him would explore darker subjects and melodies.
