Tora-san, Wish You Were Here
is an 2019 Japanese film directed by Yoji Yamada. It is the fiftieth entry in the popular and long-running ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series. Shooting began on October 20, 2018 and the film was released on December 27, 2019. It stars Kiyoshi Atsumi as Torajirō Kuruma (Tora-san). Atsumi died in 1996 and he appears throughout the film as flashbacks, using footage from his dozens of performances as Tora-san in the previous films. It also stars Chieko Baisho, Gin Maeda, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Kumiko Goto, Mari Natsuki, and Ruriko Asaoka, all recreating their roles from the long running film series. Yoji Yamada
is a Japanese film director best known for his ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series of films and his Samurai Trilogy (''The Twilight Samurai'', ''The Hidden Blade'' and '' Love and Honor''). Biography He was born in Osaka, but due to his father's job as an engineer for the South Manchuria Railway, he was brought up in Dalian, China. from the age of two. Following the end of World War II, he returned to Japan and subsequently lived in Yamagata Prefecture. After receiving his degree from Tokyo University in 1954, he entered Shochiku and worked under Yoshitaro Nomura as a scriptwriter or as an assistant director. He won many awards throughout his lengthy career and is well respected in Japan and by critics throughout the world. He wrote his first screenplay in 1958, and directed his first movie in 1961. Keisuke Kuwata
is a Japanese multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and frontman for the Southern All Stars, as well of his own solo band, the Kuwata band. He has also done a significant amount of scoring music for films. He went to Aoyama Gakuin University. In 2010, Southern All Stars was ranked No. 1, and Kuwata's solo band, the Kuwata Band, ranked No. 12 on HMV Japan's list of the top 100 musicians in Japan.
