Tora-san, His Tender Love
is a 1970 Japanese comedy film directed by Azuma Morisaki. It stars Kiyoshi Atsumi as Kuruma Torajirō (Tora-san), and Michiyo Aratama as his love interest or "Madonna". ''Tora-san, His Tender Love'' is the third entry in the popular, long-running ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series, and the first of only two in the series not directed by Yoji Yamada. Synopsis Tora-san discovers that his family is arranging a marriage for him. He leaves to the countryside where he falls in love with the manager of an inn. Unaware that she is involved with another man, Tora-san confesses his love on a New Year's television program. Azuma Morisaki
was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Career Morisaki was born in Nagasaki Prefecture and graduated from Kyoto University. After editing the film magazine ''Jidai Eiga'', he joined the Shochiku studio in 1956. Moving from the Kyoto to Ofuna Studio, he wrote screenplays for Yoji Yamada's comedies and made his directorial debut in 1969 with ''Woman Can't Be Beaten''. Known for his earthy, acerbic comedy, he also directed one episode of the ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series. Turning freelance in 1975, he continued to make films. His last film, ''Pecoross' Mother and Her Days'' (2013), was made when he was 86 years old. He died on 16 July 2020 of a stroke at a hospital in Chigasaki, Kanagawa. Chieko Baisho
is a Japanese actress and singer. In Japan, she is well known for her performance as Sakura in the ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series from 1969 until 1995. In addition, she has acted in many films directed by Yōji Yamada since the 1960s. She won the award for Best Actress at the 5th Hochi Film Award for '' A Distant Cry from Spring''. Voice acting She sometimes performs as a voice actress, such as "Sophie" in ''Howl's Moving Castle'' in 2004. Although different voice actresses usually played young and old Sophie in the foreign dubs of the film, Baisho performed both roles alone, as well as the film's theme song. Singing career She has had a career as a singer since her debut with the song "Shitamachi no Taiyō" in 1962, for which she won the "newcomer award" of the Japan Record Award.
