''aka'' ''Torasan's Journey with a Lady'' is a 1983 Japanese comedy film directed by Yoji Yamada. It stars Kiyoshi Atsumi as Torajirō Kuruma (Tora-san), and Harumi Miyako as his love interest or "Madonna". ''Tora-san's Song of Love'' is the thirty-first entry in the popular, long-running ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series. Synopsis Tora-san returns to his family home to learn that his brother-in-law cannot go to Mitsuo's (Tora-san's nephew) athletic event. Tora-san volunteers to take his place, but gets into an argument with his brother-in-law's boss and returns to the road. He meets a young woman in Niigata who, unbeknownst to him, is a popular ''enka'' singer. Yoji Yamada
is a Japanese film director best known for his ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series of films and his Samurai Trilogy (''The Twilight Samurai'', ''The Hidden Blade'' and '' Love and Honor''). Biography He was born in Osaka, but due to his father's job as an engineer for the South Manchuria Railway, he was brought up in Dalian, China. from the age of two. Following the end of World War II, he returned to Japan and subsequently lived in Yamagata Prefecture. After receiving his degree from Tokyo University in 1954, he entered Shochiku and worked under Yoshitaro Nomura as a scriptwriter or as an assistant director. He won many awards throughout his lengthy career and is well respected in Japan and by critics throughout the world. He wrote his first screenplay in 1958, and directed his first movie in 1961. Hidetaka Yoshioka
is a Japanese actor known for his performance in several movies as a child and lately the award-winning TV drama Dr. Coto's Clinic. Chieko Nakakita
was a Japanese actress. She appeared in the early films of Akira Kurosawa and later starred in many films by Mikio Naruse. Biography After graduating from Tokyo Film School (東京映画学校), Chieko Nakakita entered the Toho film studios and gave her debut in Yasujirō Shimazu's ''Nichijō no tatakai'' (1944). Her first film with Kurosawa was ''Those Who Make Tomorrow'' (1946), which he co-directed but disowned. Later films with Kurosawa include ''One Wonderful Sunday'' (1947), '' Drunken Angel'' (1948) and ''The Quiet Duel'' (1949).
