''Too Soon to Love'', also known as ''High School Honeymoon'' and ''Teenage Lovers'', is a 1960 American exploitation film directed by Richard Rush and starring Richard Evans, Jennifer West and Jack Nicholson. The film was considered by some critics as among the first of the American "new wave" of filmmaking. Premise The film is about the romantic relationship between a woman and a man, barely out of their teens, and another man named Buddy (Nicholson) who tries to steal her away from him. Richard Rush (director)
Richard Rush (April 15, 1929 – April 8, 2021) was an American film director, scriptwriter, and producer. He is known for directing ''The Stunt Man'', for which he received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Director. His film ''Color of Night'' won a Golden Raspberry Award as the worst film of 1994, but ''Maxim'' magazine also singled the film out as having the best sex scene in film history. Rush, whose directing career began in 1960, also directed ''Freebie and the Bean'', a police buddy comedy/drama starring Alan Arkin and James Caan. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 1990 film '' Air America''. Biography Early life Rush spent his childhood fascinated by Marcel Proust and ''Batman'' comics. ''The Cry Baby Killer'' is a 1958 teen exploitation film produced by Roger Corman that marked Jack Nicholson's film debut. The film was out of print and difficult to find until 2006, when it was issued on DVD for the first time by Buena Vista Home Entertainment as part of its Roger Corman Classics series. Plot Seventeen-year-old Jimmy Wallace panics after he thinks he has committed manslaughter while fighting with a group of teenage hoodlums. Wallace then takes a random man and woman, and the woman's infant, hostage inside a food shelter outside a popular local restaurant, and threatens them if they try to escape. This leads to a stand-off with a police force led by the sympathetic detective, Lieutenant Porter, who tries to avoid bloodshed. Billie Bird Sellen (February 28, 1908 – November 27, 2002), better known professionally as Billie Bird, was an American actress and comedian. She played Margie in '' Dear John'' (1988–1992). Early life Born in Pocatello, Idaho, Bird was discovered at the age of eight while living at an orphanage. As a child, she worked in vaudeville, including the act known as the King Sisters, and later in theater/cabaret before moving on to television and films. Career She is credited with an appearance in a 1921 film ''Grass Widowers'', but it is not clear if this is accurate. Otherwise, she broke into films in 1950, later making a brief, uncredited appearance in ''The Odd Couple'' as a chambermaid. Her only line was "Goodnight", which was said to Felix Ungar, who responded, "Goodbye."
