Anthony Turner (actor)
Anthony Turner ( fl. 1622 – 1659) was a noted English actor in the Caroline era. For most of his career he worked with Queen Henrietta's Men, one of the leading theatre companies of the time. Nothing is known of Turner's early life or the start of his career; by 1622 he was already a leading player with the Lady Elizabeth's Men. In 1625, Christopher Beeston formed a new company under the patronage of the new queen, Henrietta Maria; some members of the Lady Elizabeth's troupe, including Turner, joined the organization. Anthony Turner (martyr)
Anthony Turner (1628–20 June 1679) was an English Jesuit priest and martyr. He was a victim of the Popish Plot, and was falsely convicted and executed for conspiracy to murder Charles II. He was beatified in 1929 by Pope Pius XI and his feast day is 20 June. Life He was born in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, the son of a clergyman, Toby Turner, who was Rector of Little Dalby and Elizabeth, nee Cheseldine. He went to Uppingham School in Rutland, then studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge, where, according to tradition, he converted to Roman Catholicism. He went to the English College, Rome in October 1650 and then to the Jesuit College, St Omer. He was ordained there on 12 April 1659. In 1661, he was sent to run the Jesuits' Worcestershire mission, and he remained there for the rest of his ministry; in due course, he was appointed Jesuit Superior for the District (1670-78). Antony Hubert Michael "Tony" Turner (17 June 1930 – 22 July 2020) was a former Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight. Turner was educated at Royal Liberty Grammar School, Romford, Essex and Tyndale Hall, Bristol and ordained in 1957. Professor Anthony Peter Francis Turner, FRSC, usually known as Tony Turner, is a British academic specialising in the fields of biosensors and bioelectronics. Biography Professor Anthony (Tony) Turner is an Emeritus Professor of Cranfield University in England, where he was previously the Distinguished Professor of Biotechnology (until 2010) and Principal of Cranfield University at Silsoe. He remained Innovations Director for Cranfield Ventures Ltd (until 2014), with responsibility for licensing and spin offs from Cranfield University. He joined Linköping University (Sweden) in 2010, to help re-establish the university in the field of Biosensors and Bioelectronics, but retired the end of 2018 to focus on translational research and technology transfer in the Skåne region of Southern Sweden.
