Tony Santillan
Antonio C. Santillan (born April 15, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). Amateur career Santillan attended Seguin High School in Arlington, Texas. He committed to play college baseball at Texas Tech University. He was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. Professional career After signing, Santillan made his professional debut with the Arizona League Reds and spent all of his first professional season there, pitching to an 0–2 record and 5.03 ERA in innings pitched. He pitched 2016 with both the Billings Mustangs and Dayton Dragons, compiling a combined 3–3 record, 5.19 ERA, and 1.43 WHIP in 15 games started between both teams, and spent 2017 back with Dayton, posting a 9–8 record and 3.38 ERA in 25 games (24 starts). In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In baseball, a save (abbreviated SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. Most commonly a pitcher earns a save by entering in the ninth inning of a game in which his team is winning by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching one inning without losing the lead. The number of saves or percentage of save opportunities successfully converted are oft-cited statistics of relief pitchers, particularly those in the closer role. The save statistic was created by journalist Jerome Holtzman in 1959 to "measure the effectiveness of relief pitchers" and was adopted as an official Major League Baseball (MLB) statistic in 1969. The save has been retroactively tabulated for pitchers before that date. Designated for assignment (DFA) is a contractual term used in Major League Baseball (MLB). A player who is designated for assignment is immediately removed from the team's 40-man roster, after which the team must within seven days, return the player to the 40-man roster, place the player on waivers, trade the player, release the player, or outright the player from the 40-man roster into Minor League Baseball. Trevor John Story (born November 15, 1992) is an American professional baseball second baseman and shortstop for the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB).
