Tony Martin (professor)
Tony Martin (21 February 1942 – 17 January 2013) was a Trinidad and Tobago-born scholar of Africana Studies. From 1973 to 2007 he worked at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and over the course of his career published more than ten books and a range of scholarly articles. Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Martin moved to the United Kingdom, where he studied law at Gray's Inn, London, and then economics at the University of Hull. Relocating to the United States, he completed a PhD on the Jamaican political activist Marcus Garvey at Michigan State University in 1973. That year, he was employed as an associate professor at Wellesley College, where he was a founding member of its Africana Studies Department. During the latter part of the 1970s and 1980s he published several books on Garvey and Garveyism. Anthony Edward Martin (born 16 December 1944) is a farmer from Norfolk, England, who shot a burglar dead in his home in August 1999. There was much sympathy for Martin and enthusiastic support for the right to defend one's own home. However, some people cast doubt on his evidence and pointed out that he did not have a valid firearms certificate. Martin was convicted of murder, later reduced to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility and served three years in prison, having been denied parole. Tony Martin (1937 – March 24, 2021) was an American painter and new media artist known for his groundbreaking light art and viewer interactive sculptures and installations, and the paintings associated with those works. His six decade painting career includes expressionistic figural work and abstraction developed from his life and environs. Early life and education Martin is the son of painter and graphic artist David Stone Martin. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1937, he attended the University of Michigan and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the City College of New York. Anthony A. Martin (born August 31, 1948) is a Canadian politician. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1990 to 2003, representing the constituency of Sault Ste. Marie for the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP). Thereafter, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in 2004, representing Sault Ste. Marie until 2011. Background Martin was raised in Wawa, Ontario, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University in 1974. Later in the same year, he received a Diploma in Recreational Leadership from Confederation College. He was the founder of the Sault Ste. Anthony Martin (born 13 February 1995) is an Australia, Australian auto racing, race car driver. Career Martin began his racing career in karting in 2008 and continued in karting the following year. In 2013 and 2014 Martin competed in Australian Formula Ford Championship. In 2015 U.S. F2000 National Championship, 2015 he made his debut in the U.S. F2000 National Championship with John Cummiskey Racing. He returned to the series in 2016, moving to Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing and won the championship. He won seven of the sixteen races, along with four other podium finishes and nine poles. Anthony Martin (born 18 November 1982, Bethesda, Antigua and Barbuda on the island of Antigua) is a West Indian cricketer. He has been an impressive first-class cricketer, and has represented the West Indies national cricket team in One Day International matches. He had been a fast bowler in his Under-15 days, but he injured his back in an accident and he could not bowl fast any more. Anthony Martin (born 24 August 1980) is a British professional basketball player, who plays for the Newcastle Eagles in the British Basketball League. Biography The 6 ft tall point guard began his career with the BBL Championship winning Chester Jets team of the 2004/05 season, making his debut in a home match against Sheffield Sharks on 1 October 2004.
