Tony Krsticevic
Antonio (Tony) Krsticevic (born 13 June 1966) is an Australian politician, who served as the member for Carine in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from the 2008 election to the 2021 election. He is a member of the Liberal Party. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Krsticevic emigrated to Australia at the age of three with his family a few years after his father established himself, and became a citizen at age 10. After completing a Bachelor of Business with a major in Accounting and Computing, he worked for 20 years at the Australian Taxation Office in Perth. He also served on the Ethnic Communities Council's management committee and was a founding member and the first chair of the Croatian Community Council, as well as coaching the local junior soccer team in Balcatta. He joined the Liberal Party in 1995, in 2008 he was asked to nominate for Carine after the incumbent member, Katie Hodson-Thomas, announced her retirement. Carine is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is based in Perth's northern suburbs. Politically, it has been a safe Liberal seat but Paul Lilburne won it for the Labor Party for the first time at the 2021 election. City Of Stirling
The City of Stirling is a local government area in the northern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth about north of Perth's central business district. The City covers an area of and has a population of over 223,000, making it the largest local government area by population in Western Australia. History Stirling was established on 24 January 1871 as the Perth Road District under the ''District Roads Act 1871''. The district at that time included what are now the Cities of Wanneroo, Joondalup, Bayswater and Belmont. With the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all road districts into shires, it became the Shire of Perth on 1 July 1961. The Shire of Perth had a population of 84,000 in 1961. It was declared a city and renamed Stirling on 24 January 1971. Balcatta is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. It is a primarily middle-class suburb made up of mainly Italian, Greek and Macedonian families, as well as many families from other European countries. It is also one of the largest suburbs in the northern part of the Perth metropolitan area. Much of Balcatta is a commercial and industrial area. History Balcatta's name was derived from the Aboriginal words "Bal" meaning "his" and "Katta" meaning "hill". The area became popular with Southern European migrant families, because it was one of the few areas that had not been settled and many migrant families wanted to build their own homes in their distinctive style, many complete with plaster figurines of lions and romanesque style columns adorning the front verandah and entry. Katie Hodson-Thomas
Katina Hodson-Thomas (born 28 April 1957) is an Australian politician who was a Liberal member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly representing the electorate of Carine after winning the seat in the 1996 election. She was subsequently re-elected to the seat in 2001 and 2005 but retired just before the 2008 election. Born in Norwood, South Australia, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, she was educated at the local high school before leaving to arrive in Western Australia in 1987. In January 2008, Hodson-Thomas announced that she would retire from politics at the end of her term. She left the party as a result of a bitter leadership feud between Paul Omodei and then-leader Troy Buswell, and after Buswell had made inappropriate sexist comments to her in front of a large number of male colleagues, for which Buswell later apologised.
