Tony Castaño
Tony Castaño (February 11, 1911 - October 13, 1989) had a long career in professional baseball. He spent time managing in the Mexican League, the highest level of professional baseball in Mexico. He began his career playing in Cuba and from 1938 to 1945, and again in 1950, he played in the minor leagues. He hit .294 with 1,044 hits (of which only four were home runs) in 3,555 at-bats. Perhaps his best season was 1938 with the Asheville Tourists, when he hit .332 with 180 hits, 26 doubles and eight triples in 134 games. During the winter, he played in Cuba. Petroleros De Poza Rica
The Mexican League (, ) is a professional baseball league based in Mexico and the oldest running professional league in the country. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season. Five teams in each division advance to a four-round postseason tournament that culminates in the Serie del Rey, a best-of-seven championship series between the two division champions. The Mexican League has two affiliated minor leagues, the Liga Norte de México and Mexican Academy League. Though founded in 1925, the league joined the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues ( Minor League Baseball) in 1955, when it was designated a Double-A league. Pedro Treto Cisneros
Pedro Treto Cisneros (August 1, 1939 - February 28, 2013) served as commissioner of the Mexican League from 1982 to 1999. He authored and edited the first Mexican League encyclopedia and at different points worked as a sports reporter, sports columnist and general manager of the Saraperos de Saltillo. He was elected to the Salon de la Fama as an executive in 1999. Leones De Yucatán
The Leones de Yucatán (English: Yucatán Lions) are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League. The team play its home games at Parque Kukulcán Alamo in Mérida, Yucatán. The Leones have won the Mexican League title five times in , , , and most recently in . History Mexican League premiere The Leones de Yucatán were founded in 1954 under the leadership of Alvaro Ponce Vidiella and Humberto "Beto" Abimerhi Abimerhi. The team's entry to the Mexican League was announced on 5 January 1954. The team nickname is a reference to the name of the beer company built by the Ponce family. The Leones opened the season on 17 April at the newly built Carta Clara Park, hosting the previous season's champions, the Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo, and earning an 8–0 victory. Pericos De Puebla
The Pericos de Puebla (English: "Puebla Parrots") are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League based in Puebla, Mexico. History The state of Puebla came upon baseball in the early 1920s when returning Poblanos that had come from military service who were based in the north of Mexico brought back with them this new sport which they share with the locals. Which the natives practice in their spare time spurning up numerous of amateurs baseball teams around the state. In 1922, General Andrés Zarzosa Verástegui founded an amateur baseball club Almazán de Puebla All former Puebla baseball clubs who went down to Mexico City to play exhibition games against the amateurs clubs from the state. In 1924 General Juan Andrew Almazán now owner of the club relocated in Mexico City. No one took charge of the club and so it was forgotten.
