List Of Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Basketball Regular Season Champions
This is a list of Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball regular season first-place finishers, including ties. Notably, all champions after 1961 are considered unofficial by the conference, as the ACC elected to eliminate the regular season title following that season. Since then, the conference's bylaws have stated the sole champion is the winner of the ACC tournament, a rule that remains in place to this day. The conference's automatic NCAA berth is reserved for the ACC Tournament winner. However, the conference specifically allows schools to hang championship banners for regular season titles even if they are not "officially" considered conference championships. The Academic All-America program is a student-athlete recognition program. The program selects an honorary sports team composed of the most outstanding student-athletes of a specific season for positions in various sports—who in turn are given the honorific "Academic All-American". The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) was founded in 1956 by National Collegiate Athletic Association director Walter Byers to serve the interests of journalists who cover college basketball. Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball Coach Of The Year
The John R. Wooden Coach of the Year, commonly known as the Pac-12 Coach of the Year, is an annual college basketball award presented to the top men's basketball coach in the Pac-12 Conference. The winner is selected by conference coaches, who are not allowed to vote for themselves. Former Arizona coach Lute Olson won the award a record seven times. It was first awarded in 1976, when the conference consisted of eight teams and was known as the Pacific-8, before becoming the Pacific-10 after expanding in 1978. Two more teams were added in 2011, when the conference became the Pac-12. The award was known as the Pac-10 Coach of the Year Award when it was renamed in John Wooden's honor following his death in June 2010. Naismith College Coach of the Year Award is an award given by the Atlanta Tipoff Club to one men's and one women's NCAA Division I collegiate coach each season since 1987. The Henry Iba Award was established in 1959 to recognize the best college basketball coach of the year by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). Five nominees are presented and the individual with the most votes receives the award, which is presented in conjunction with the Final Four. The award is named for Henry Iba, who coached at Oklahoma State from 1934 to 1970.
