''Tonio Kröger'' is a 1964 West German historical drama film directed by Rolf Thiele, based on the 1903 novella of the same name by Thomas Mann. It was entered into the 14th Berlin International Film Festival. It was shot at the Tempelhof Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Wolf Englert. Rolf Thiele (7 March 1918 – 9 October 1994) was a German film director, film producer, producer and screenwriter. He directed 42 films between 1951 and 1977. Nadja Tiller
Nadja Tiller (born 16 March 1929 in Vienna, Austria) is an Austrian actress. She was one of the most popular German-speaking actresses of international films of the 1950s and 1960s. Biography Nadja Tiller, daughter of actor Anton Tiller of Vienna and his wife Erika Tiller (1902-1979) (formerly Erika Körner), an opera singer and actress from Danzig, attended a Realgymnasium secondary school in Vienna. In 1945 she began her studies at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar, which she later continued until 1949 at the Musik- und Schauspielakademie. In the same year she became an ensemble member at the Theater in der Josefstadt. She won the Miss Austria competition in 1949, a national beauty pageant for unmarried women in Austria. Karl Gerhart "Gert" Fröbe (; 25 February 1913 – 5 September 1988) was a German actor. Mathieu Carrière
Mathieu Carrière (; born 2 August 1950) is a German actor. Life Carrière grew up in Berlin and Lübeck; he attended the Jesuit boarding school in Vannes, France, a school which had previously been attended by the director of Carrière's first major film, Volker Schlöndorff. In 1969, Carrière moved to Paris to study philosophy and continue his acting. Carrière is also a director and a writer and is known to fight for the rights of fathers. His sister Mareike Carrière was also an actress. Theo Lingen (; 10 June 1903 – 10 November 1978), born Franz Theodor Schmitz, was a German actor, film director and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 230 films between 1929 and 1978, and directed 21 films between 1936 and 1960. Life and career Lingen was born the son of a lawyer in the city of Hanover, and grew up there. He attended the Royal Goethe Gymnasium – the predecessor of the Goethe School – in Hanover, but left before taking the Abitur (final exams). His theatrical talent was discovered during rehearsals for a school performance at the ''Schauburg'' boulevard theatre. Walter Giller
Walter Giller (23 August 1927 – 15 December 2011) was a German actor. He was very successful in the 1950s and 1960s, when he was often seen as a comedic leading man. One of his most successful and more serious roles was in ''Roses for the Prosecutor''. Giller was born in Recklinghausen. In 1956, he married actress Nadja Tiller; they had two children and appeared together in a number of films. The couple resided in Lugano, Switzerland for many years. In 2009, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He underwent a major (but unsuccessful) operation. He died in Hamburg in 2011, aged 84.
