Tonio (film)
''Tonio'' is a 2016 Dutch drama film directed by Paula van der Oest. It was based on the book of the same name by A.F. Th. van der Heijden. It was selected as the Dutch entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards but it was not nominated. The film won the Pearl Award at the Film by the Sea festival in the Netherlands in 2017. Paula Van Der Oest
Paula van der Oest (born 1965) is a Dutch film director and screenwriter. Her 2001 film '' Zus & Zo'' was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. With her final exam at the Dutch Film and Television Academy, ''Zinderend'', she won a Cannon Award in 1988. In the following years, she worked as an assistant director, until she returned in 1994 as a director. For the VPRO-series '' Lolamoviola'' she made the short movies ''Coma'' and ''Achilles en het zebrapad'' (Achilles and the Zebracrossing). With the first, she won a Golden Calf for the best television drama. In 1996 Van der Oest made her first long movie, ''De nieuwe moeder'' (''The New Mother''). Her husband at the time, Theu Boermans, had a role in this movie (later, he would also have a role in ''Zus & Zo''). Rifka Lodeizen (born 16 October 1972) is a Dutch actress. Career Lodeizen made her debut with a small role in the 1991 film ''The Province''. She was discovered by film director Eddy Terstall and she played a role in his 1996 film '' Hufters & hofdames''. Lodeizen won the Golden Calf for Best Actress award at the 2009 Netherlands Film Festival for her role in the film '' Can Go Through Skin'' directed by Esther Rots. She also won the Golden Calf for Best Actress in a Television Drama award in 2012 for her role in the television series ''Overspel'' by Frank Ketelaar. She also won this award in 2019 for her role in the television series ''Judas''. This is a list of submissions to the 89th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2015 and 30 September 2016. The deadline for submissions was 3 October 2016, with the Academy announcing a list of eligible films on 11 October. Film by the Sea is an annual film festival that takes place in Vlissingen, Netherlands, in September. Festival Film by the Sea was founded in 1999. The festival features both pre-premieres of major commercial films, and art house films that do not yet have a distributor in the Netherlands. A main focus of the festival is on films based on literature, which is connected to an annual festival competition. Film by the Sea takes place annually in the Cine City cinema in Vlissingen.
