Tong Fuk Beach
Tong Fuk Beach is a gazetted beach located on South Lantau Road in Tong Fuk, Lantau Island, Hong Kong. The beach is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government. The beach is 150 metres long and is rated as good to fair by the Environmental Protection Department for its water quality in the past twenty years. It is a popular holiday resort in Lantau Island. History On 21 December 2018, a carcass of a subadult female finless porpoise was found by Ocean Park personnel at the beach that caused it to be temporarily closed. The Ocean Park Conservation Foundation had transported the finless porpoise back to Ocean Park for autopsy. On 15 January 2019, another carcass of an adult female finless porpoise was found by Ocean Park personnel at the beach that caused it to be temporarily closed. Tong Fuk
Tong Fuk (, formerly ) is a village and an area on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It is a popular place for holiday recreation. Tong Fuk Beach, to the south of the village, is a popular local attraction alongside the other beaches of South Lantau. Administration Tong Fuk is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. Tong Fuk is one of the villages represented within the South Lantao Rural Committee. For electoral purposes, Tong Fuk is part of the Lantau constituency, which is currently represented by Randy Yu Hon-kwan. History The original Tong Fuk Tsuen was composed of indigenous inhabitants of Chan (陳) and Tang (鄧) clans who settled in the Wanli (萬曆, 1572-1620) reign of the Ming dynasty. Lantau Island
Lantau Island (also Lantao Island, Lan Tao) is the largest island in Hong Kong, located West of Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula, and is part of the New Territories. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), is a department in the Government of Hong Kong. Porpoise
Porpoises are a group of fully aquatic marine mammals, all of which are classified under the family Phocoenidae, parvorder Odontoceti (toothed whales). Although similar in appearance to dolphins, they are more closely related to narwhals and belugas than to the true dolphins. There are eight extant species of porpoise, all among the smallest of the toothed whales. Shek Kwu Chau
Shek Kwu Chau is an island of Hong Kong, located south of Lantau Island and between Cheung Chau and the Soko Islands. Administratively, it is part of Islands District. Shek Kwu Chau is a restricted area and a permit is required to visit the island. History An old name for the island was "Coffin Island". Beaches Of Hong Kong
Hong Kong has a long coastline that is full of twists and turns with many bays and beaches. Many of them are well sheltered by mountains nearby, as Hong Kong is a mountainous place. As a result, large waves seldom appear at the bays, making them suitable for human swimming. However, with the increasing development and urbanisation of Hong Kong, water quality has worsened resulting in the closure of several beaches previously suitable for swimming. These include Approach Beach, Ting Kau Beach, Anglers' Beach, Gemini Beaches, Hoi Mei Wan Beach, Casam Beach and Lido Beach in Tsuen Wan.
