Tone Peruško
Tone Peruško (February 27, 1905 – July 27, 1967), was a Croatian educator, social worker and writer. Peruško graduated in 1952 from the Higher Pedagogical School and the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. He later became a teacher in Zagreb, a professor at the Italian Teachers' School in Rijeka, and a professor at the Higher Pedagogical School in Zagreb. His contribution to pedagogy in Croatia was significant, and he was the founder of the Pedagogical Academy in Pula. In his book ''Knjiga o Istri'' (A Book about Istria), published posthumously, he argues for a common national identity of Croatian and Italian lower class' people autochthonous of Istria, the Istrian man being "a kind of local patriot, isolated in his intimacy from both Italy and Yugoslavia." Mijo Mirković
Mijo Mirković (; 28 September 1898 – 17 February 1963), also known by his pen names Miho and Mate Balota, was a prominent Croatian poet, novelist and economist. Considered one of the most prominent Croatian poets of the 20th century and often credited as the greatest Istrian poet, he was called "the greatest Istrian after Labin's Matija Vlačić" by Tone Peruško. Mirković was born in Rakalj, southeastern Istria. His family was evacuated to Moravia at the beginning of the Great War. Upon his return to Croatia he worked as a journalist in Pula before moving to Zagreb, where he graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He later studied economy and social sciences in Berlin and Frankfurt, where he had gone in order to examine the original manuscripts of Matija Vlačić. Zvane Črnja
Zvane (Ivan) Črnja (October 8, 1920 – February 26, 1991) was a prominent Croatian poet, prose writer, essayist, culturologist, screenwriter, playwright and filmologist, journalist, publicist, polemicist and publisher. He's considered one of the most important names that Istria gave to Croatia in the 20th century. His aliases include: ''Osip Suri'', ''Barba Zvane'', and ''Filus''. Josip Bratulić
Josip Bratulić (born 2 February 1939) is a Croatian philologist and a historian of literature and culture. He was born in Sveti Petar u Šumi. He attended a gymnasium in Pazin, graduating in Croatian studies and comparative literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. At the same university he received his master's degree and a doctorate, with a thesis on Croatian Glagolism. He worked as an assistant and research associate at the Old Church Slavonic Institute in Zagreb, and since 1977 he has been teaching a course on Old Croatian literature at the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy. He served as a dean in the period 1991-1993, and since 2000 he has been a regular member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The Istrian Encyclopedia ( hr, Istarska enciklopedija) is a Croatian encyclopedia giving a complete overview of the Istrian peninsula and its history.
