Tondu RFC
Tondu Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Aberkenfig, South Wales. They presently play in the Welsh Rugby Union Championship and are a feeder club for the Ospreys. During the early 1990s Tondu RFC dominated the Glamorgan County Silver Ball competition, winning the trophy in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Tondu are the joint leading winners of the competition having now won it on four occasions. An ad first appeared in "The Western Mail" on 22 November 1879, announcing the formation of the Tondu Football Club. Aberkenfig
Aberkenfig ( cy, Abercynffig, meaning "mouth of the Kenfig" (stream)) is a village located in the Bridgend (county borough), County Borough of Bridgend, Wales to the north of Bridgend town. It is in the Community (Wales), community of Newcastle Higher. Location Aberkenfig is located in South Wales, just off the A4063 link to the M4 motorway, M4 at Junction 36. It is nestled at the confluence of the River Llynfi and the River Ogmore, Ogmore River. It is located to the south of Tondu and to the west of Sarn, Bridgend, Sarn, Brynmenyn and Bryncethin. Keith Bradshaw (rugby Player)
Keith Bradshaw (7 April 1939 – 2 February 2014) was a international rugby union player. He was capped nine times for Wales, and at club level played for Bridgend. Rugby career Bradshaw first played rugby at club level for his home town team of Cefn Cribwr RFC. He later played for Tondu before switching to first-class team Bridgend. Bradshaw was first selected to represent Wales in the opening encounter of the 1964 Five Nations Championship, played against England at Twickenham. Bradshaw was paired at centre with Llanelli's Ken Jones, in a game that ended in a 6-6 draw. Bradshaw retained his place for the rest of the 1964 tournament, and in his second game, a home fixture with Scotland, he scored his first international points for Wales with a try, a conversion and a penalty goal, in a convincing win. Ryan Matyas
Ryan Matyas (born December 24, 1990) is an American rugby union player who plays as a wing for the San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby (MLR) and for the United States national rugby union team. Career Matyas played college rugby for the Arizona Wildcats. Matyas played with the United States national rugby sevens team under head coach Matt Hawkins. He earned a full-time contract for the 2013–14 season, playing in six tournaments in the 2013–14 IRB Sevens World Series. After the season, the U.S. brought in a new head coach, Mike Friday, and Matyas's contract with the U.S. sevens team was not renewed for the 2014–15 season. Owen Watkin
Owen Watkin (born 12 October 1996) is a Wales international rugby union player who plays for Ospreys regional team as a centre. Club career A product of the Ospreys Academy, he signed his first professional contract with his home region in 2016 having also featured for his hometown team, Bridgend Ravens. Having made his regional debut for the Ospreys in September, 2015 as an 18-year-old, he has developed into a mainstay at the Liberty Stadium. Lee Byrne
Lee Byrne (born 1 June 1980) is a Welsh former professional rugby union and rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. Club career Byrne started his career playing rugby union for Bridgend Athletic RFC; and Tondu RFC, as a full-back or wing, and after being spotted playing rugby league for Bridgend Blue Bulls, he signed for the Llanelli Scarlets. While playing against Connacht in 2007, Byrne demonstrated his abilities as a stand-in kicker when he kicked two penalties and two conversions after fly-half Shaun Connor went off injured. JPR Williams
John Peter Rhys Williams (born 2 March 1949) is a former Welsh rugby union player who represented Wales in international rugby during their Golden Era in the 1970s. He became known universally as J. P. R. Williams (or sometimes just as JPR) after 1973 when J. J. Williams (also John) joined the Welsh team. Playing in the position of full back, he was noted for his aggressive attacking style. With his long sideboards and socks around his ankles, "JPR" was an iconic figure on the legendary 1970s Wales team. River Ogmore
The River Ogmore ( cy, Afon Ogwr) is a river in South Wales that is popular with anglers. It runs generally from north to south from the Ogmore Vale and Gilfach Goch, past Bridgend and Ogmore. The River Ogmore rises at Craig Ogwr (527 m) in the Ogmore Valley as the Ogwr Fawr before it links with the Ogwr Fach at Blackmill.
