Tomás Moulian
Tomás Moulian Emparanza (born 21 September 1939) is a Chilean political scientist and sociologist. A Guggenheim Fellow and winner of the National Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences, he is known for being a critic of the socio-economic structure of his country after the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Biography The brother of historian , and uncle of businessman , Tomás Moulian studied sociology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC), and did postgraduate studies at the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in Belgium and Paris. He was director of the sociology schools of his alma mater and of University ARCIS. At the latter he also served as Vice Chancellor for Research, and Rector from 2003 to 2006. He was deputy director of the Latin American Social Sciences Institute (FLACSO) in Chile (1990–1991), where he also taught from 1974 to 1994. Santiago International Book Fair
The Santiago International Book Fair (''Spanish: Feria Internacional del Libro de Santiago, FILSA'') is an annual book fair held in Santiago, Chile, during October–December. It is organised by the Chilean Chamber for Books (''Cámara Chilena del Libro''). History The Santiago Book Fair was created in 1981 as a national event, an initiative of then mayor of Santiago, Carlos Bombal. It was originally held in Parque Forestal, behind the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Fine Arts; from 1989 it has been held in the Estación Mapocho, Estación Mapocho Cultural Center. In 1990 the event was expanded to become an international book fair and in 2011, for the first time, it featured a section dedicated to electronic books. Latin American Social Sciences Institute
The Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences ( es, Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, pt, Faculdade Latino-Americana de Ciências Sociais or FLACSO) is a graduate-only university and inter-governmental autonomous organization for Latin America dedicated to research, teaching and spreading of social sciences. The Popular Front (Spanish: ''Frente Popular'') in Chile was an electoral and political left-wing coalition from 1937 to February 1941, during the Presidential Republic Era (1924–1973). Tomás René Hirsch Goldschmidt (born 19 July 1956) is a leftist Chilean politician and businessman. He was the Together We Can Do More pact candidate for the 2005 Chilean presidential election, winning 5.4% of the vote. Biography Hirsch was born in Santiago, Chile, to Jewish-German parents. His mother, Lysa Goldschmidt, arrived in Chile before World War II, while his father, Jorge Hirsch, arrived in the country escaping from German Nazi concentration camps. During his youth, Hirsch became interested in Silo, an Argentinian writer and leader of a movement that inspired the founders of the Humanist Party. In 1974 Hirsch began studying Industrial Civil Engineering at the University of Chile, but dropped out in 1978. Later he began working on his brother's photo company. Hirsch is married to Juanita Vergara and has two children. El Mostrador is a Chilean online newspaper, founded on 1 March 2000. Its current president is Germán Olmedo Acedvedo and its director is Federico Joannon Errázuriz. History ''El Mostrador'' was launched on 1 March 2000 and is Chile's first exclusively digital newspaper.
