Tommy Thomas (born 1952) is a Malaysian people, Malaysian barrister and the former Attorney General of Malaysia from 2018 to 2020. He was the first practising barrister to be appointed directly from the Malaysian Bar to be the Attorney General, and the first non-Malays (ethnic group), Malay and non-Malaysian Muslims, Muslim Malaysian to hold this post after the Malaysia Agreement, formation of Malaysia in 1963. Early life and education Thomas was born to Keluthara and Vijayamma Thomas (Dr.) in Kuala Lumpur in 1952 and graduated from Pasar Road English School and Victoria Institution. He read law at University of Manchester in 1973 and was called to the bar by Middle Temple in 1974. He has Master of Science, M.Sc. in International Relations from London School of Economics. Alphonse "Tommy" Thomas (December 23, 1899 – April 27, 1988) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher with the Chicago White Sox (1926–1932), Washington Senators (1932–1935), Philadelphia Phillies (1935), St. Louis Browns (1936–1937) and Boston Red Sox (1937). He batted and threw right-handed. Background Thomas was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated from the Baltimore City College high school. Career Thomas played for the Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Browns, and Boston Red Sox. From 1926 through 1929 with the White Sox, Thomas finished in the top 10 in the American League in earned run average three times and in wins three times. In 1927 he led the American League with 36 games started and tied for the American League lead with innings pitched, and in 1929 he led the league with 24 complete games. Tommy Thomas (baseball Coach)
Tommy Thomas was the head coach of the Valdosta State University baseball team from 1967 to 2007, leading the team to 34 winning seasons. He had a managerial record of 1,328-825-6, and headed the team to the national tournament eight times, Gulf South Conference titles in 1995 and 2002, division titles in 1983, 2001 and 2003 and a Division II national title in 1979. The 1979 national title was the school's first of any kind. He was the first and only Division II coach to reach 1,200 wins. Thomas David "T.D." Thomas (February 19, 1899 – July 30, 1980) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a CCF member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. He represented the ridings of Ontario from 1948 to 1955, and Oshawa from 1955 to 1963. Background Thomas, who was known as "Tommy" or by his initials as "T.D. Thomas", was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1899. He emigrated to Canada in 1929 and worked for General Motors of Canada as a toolmaker. He sat Board of Education of the Ontario County Township and was a director of the Oshawa General Hospital from 1952 to 1973. His wife Christine served on Oshawa City Council and later as Mayor of Oshawa in 1961 and 1962, the city's first woman mayor. Tommy Thomas is the former Republican sheriff of Harris County, Texas. Biography Thomas was sworn in as the 27th sheriff of Harris County on June 28, 1995, after the resignation of Johnny Klevenhagen. He was elected to his 3rd four-year term in November 2004. Sheriff Thomas started his public service career as a member of the United States Army. After being honorably discharged in 1968, he joined the Harris County Sheriff's Office. By 1982, he was promoted to the rank of major. In 1988, he was promoted to chief deputy under a Democratic sheriff Johnny Klevenhagen, where he remained until his appointment as sheriff. He was the first sheriff in modern history to hold every rank within the department, including detective. His term ended in January 2009 when Adrian Garcia (D-Houston) was sworn in as the 28th Harris County Sheriff.
