Thomas Arthur Price (28 October 1907 - April 1989) was a motorcycle speedway rider who rode for several teams between 1929 and 1937. Burscough Bridge
Burscough () is a town and civil parish in West Lancashire in the ceremonial county of Lancashire, England. It is located to the north of Ormskirk and northwest of Skelmersdale. The parish also includes the hamlet of Tarlscough and the Martin Mere Wetland Centre. The population taken at the 2011 Census was 9,182. History and growth A substantial Roman fort with an area of 30,000 m2 and dating from the 1st century was located here, as recently confirmed by geophysical survey and aerial photos. This was linked to neighbouring forts in the region, especially the nearest at Wigan and Ribchester, and provides insight into Roman military strategy. The area was then occupied over the course of hundreds of years, as shown by the variety of pottery found at the site. Liverpool Chads are a defunct motorcycle speedway team who were based at the Stanley Stadium in Prescot Road, Fairfield, Liverpool, England.Bamford, R & Jarvis J.(2001). League racing first took place in 1929 with the formation of the English Dirt Track League, effectively a Northern League, which ran alongside the Southern League. The Liverpool promotion were attached to the Belle Vue Aces promotion during this time but midway through 1937 the club folded and the riders moved to Belle Vue. Preston (speedway)
Preston were a British speedway team that existed from 1929 to 1932. History They first competed in the English Dirt Track League (effectively the Northern League) in 1929 when they were runners-up to Leeds Lions. In the same season they won the English Dirt Track Knockout Cup beating Halifax in the final. The team raced for two more seasons in the 1930 Speedway Northern League and 1931 Speedway Northern League but closed before the 1932 season. They were based at Farringdon Park, New Hall Lane, Preston, Lancashire, the track was situated around the perimeter of the Preston Grasshoppers R.F.C. rugby ground. The speedway syndicate agreed a six year sub-tenancy with the rugby club in 1929 but folded in 1932. The location today is Farringdon Crescent. Leicester Super was a motorcycle speedway team based at the Leicester Super Speedway near Melton Road. Birmingham Brummies
Birmingham Brummies are a British speedway team founded in 1928. They were inaugural members of the Southern League in 1929. The team have twice finished runner-up in the highest tier of British speedway, during the 1952 Speedway National League and 2013 Elite League speedway season. After four years in the National League, in 2019 they moved up to the second tier of British speedway in the SGB Championship. The club hold the record of having won the top tier List of United Kingdom speedway league champions, League championship 13 times. They currently compete in the SGB Premiership, racing at The National Speedway Stadium, with home matches usually taking place on Monday evenings. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . The Provincial League was a league competition for speedway teams in the United Kingdom. The Provincial League created as a breakaway league from the National League and continued for five seasons between 1960 and 1964. History The 'Provincial League' name had previously been used for the second tier of the National League in the 1930s, although the name was dropped after two seasons, when it was renamed to National League Division Two.
