Tommy Allen (field Hockey)
Tommy Allen is a former Ireland men's field hockey international goalkeeper. Allen represented Ireland as both an outdoor and indoor player. He represented Ireland at the 1978 Men's Hockey World Cup. He played club field hockey for Monkstown and represented Leinster at interprovincial level.Monkstown Hockey Club archives Domestic teams Monkstown Allen joined Monkstown as a 14 year-old in 1960. Following a number of seasons playing as a goalkeeper for the third and second teams, he became a regular first team member in 1968. Monkstown Hockey Club (Irish: ''Cumann Haca Baile na Manach'') is a field hockey club based at Rathdown School in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. The club was founded in 1894 and was originally based in Monkstown, County Dublin. The club's senior men's team plays in the Men's Irish Hockey League and the Men's Irish Senior Cup. The Wales men's national field hockey team represents Wales in men's international field hockey competitions. Wales participated once in the Summer Olympics, the first edition and they won the bronze medal. Since then they participate in the Olympics as a part of the Great Britain squad. Indoor Field Hockey
Indoor hockey is an indoor variant of field hockey. It is similar to the outdoor game in that two teams compete to move a hard ball into the goal of the opposing side using hockey sticks. Indoor hockey is played on a smaller area and between smaller teams than field hockey and the sidelines are replaced by solid barriers from which the ball rebounds and remains in play. It is traditionally and mainly played as a pastime by outdoor field hockey players during the off-season or when conditions are unsuitable for outdoor play. Indoor hockey is played in regular national and international championships. The first Indoor Hockey World Cup was organized in 2003. Jimmy Kirkwood (field Hockey And Cricket)
Jimmy Kirkwood (born 12 February 1962) is a former field hockey player from Northern Ireland who represented both Ireland and Great Britain at international level. He represented Great Britain at the 1988 Summer Olympics when they won the gold medal. He also represented Ireland at the 1990 Men's Hockey World Cup. Kirkwood was also an Ireland cricket international. Early years, family and education Kirkwood was educated at Friends' School, Lisburn and Queen's University Belfast where he studied Economics. In his youth, in addition to playing field hockey and cricket, Kirkwood also included played rugby union, playing for Friends' School, Lisburn in the Ulster Schools' Cup. EuroHockey Nations Championship
The EuroHockey Nations Championship is an international men's field hockey competition organised by the European Hockey Federation (EHF) for the top eight European national teams. It is the top division of the EuroHockey Nations Championships. The tournament started in 1970. When the tournament is held close to the Summer Olympic games or the Hockey World Cup, the winner of the tournament is awarded a place in those competitions. Format Since 2005 the tournament is played in Divisions, normally consisting of 8 teams.
