Tomasz Grodzki
Tomasz Paweł Grodzki (born 13 May 1958) is a Polish politician, doctor and surgeon. He has served as Marshal of the Senate since 12 November 2019, defeating Stanisław Karczewski with a majority of 51 votes from the Senate. Biography Education and scientific activity Grodzki is a graduate of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin (1983), at which obtained a doctoral degree in 1991, a postdoctoral degree in 2003, as well as the title of Medical Science Professor in 2010. He was associated with the Pomeranian Medical University's Medical Faculty and then the Pomeranian Medical University in his scientific work. Political career In the Polish local elections in 2006, 2010 and 2014, he was elected a councilor of the City Council of Szczecin from the Civic Platform's lists without formally entering the party. Marshal Of The Senate Of The Republic Of Poland
The Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland ( pl, Marszałek Senatu Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej) is the presiding officer of the Senate of Poland. The marshal is also third person according to the Polish order of precedence, after President of the Republic of Poland and Sejm Marshal, and second in line to become Acting President of the Republic of Poland (after Sejm Marshal; in period 1935-1939 Senate Marshal was the first). Because of both precedence order and succession order, the marshal is commonly referred to as the "third person in state". The Senate ( pl, Senat) is the upper house of the Parliament of Poland, Polish parliament, the lower house being the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Sejm. The history of the Polish Senate stretches back over 500 years; it was one of the first constituent bodies of a bicameral parliament in Europe and existed without hiatus until the final Partitions of Poland, partition of the Polish state in 1795. The Left ( pl, Lewica) is a political alliance in Poland. Initially founded to contest the 2019 parliamentary election, the alliance now consists of the New Left and Left Together. It also originally consisted of Democratic Left Alliance and Spring until its merging to create the New Left, including the Polish Socialist Party that left the coalition in 2021. The Polish People's Party ( pl, Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe, PSL) is an agrarian political party in Poland. It is currently led by Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Its history traces back to 1895, when it held the name People's Party, although its name was changed to the present one in 1903. The Civic Coalition ( pl, Koalicja Obywatelska, KO)) is a catch-all political alliance in Poland. The alliance was formed around Civic Platform in opposition to the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party. The coalition's name uses a play on words with ''Ja Obywatel'', which translates to "I, Citizen". History The Civic Coalition was originally created by the Civic Platform and Modern parties for 2018 local elections.
