Tom Smith (UNC Asheville Baseball Coach)
Tom Smith is an American college baseball coach, formerly the head coach of the UNC Asheville Bulldogs baseball team. He retired from that position following the 2014 season after holding it for five years. Smith played at Western Carolina, where he earned a pair of varsity letters. After completing his degree at Western in 1978, he became head coach at T. C. Roberson High School, where he led the Rams to three state championships, fourteen conference titles, and saw 20 players drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft. Roberson established itself as one of the top programs in the state during his 28 years as head coach, and Smith collected a record of 478–185. Western Carolina Catamounts Baseball
The Western Carolina Catamounts are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent Western Carolina University. The Catamounts compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Southern Conference. Western Carolina fields 16 varsity sports teams. The men's and women's teams are called the Catamounts. Nickname The nickname Catamount derives from The nickname evolved from a contest that was held on campus in 1933. The school was called Western Carolina Teachers College at that time and its teams were known as "the Teachers". Everyone on campus was invited to participate, and the usual names were suggested: Bears, Indians, Panthers. However, the college wanted an unusual name; a name that few others had and that everyone would not copy. The 2010 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 19, 2010. The 2012 Big South Conference baseball tournament was held from May 22 through 26. The top eight regular season finishers of the ten eligible teams met in the double-elimination tournament which was held at George S. Erath Field at Coy O. Williard Baseball Stadium on the campus of High Point University in High Point, NC. was not eligible for postseason play in any sport until the 2012–2013 academic year due to its transition to Division I. High Point Panthers Baseball
The High Point Panthers baseball team represents High Point University, which is located in High Point, North Carolina. The Panthers are an NCAA Division I college baseball program that competes in the Big South Conference. They began competing in Division I in 2000 and joined the Big South Conference the same season. The High Point Panthers play all home games on campus at George S. Erath Field. Over their 20 seasons in the Big South Conference, they have played in 17 Big South Tournaments, advancing to the finals in 2018 where they fell to top-seed Campbell.
