Thomas Martin ( 1530 – 1583), of Park Pale, Tolpuddle, Dorset, was an English politician. There remain questions over Martin's identity. There have been suggestions that he was the lawyer and MP from the area, Thomas Martin (died 1593), Thomas Martin, who represented other constituencies. It is now thought he was from a different Martin family in the area. He married Elizabeth Gerard and they had at least five sons and three daughters. Thomas Carlaw Martin
Sir Thomas Carlaw Martin FRSE LLD (10 April 1850 – 26 October 1920) was a Scottish newspaper editor and Director of the Royal Scottish Museum. Life He was born at Woodcocklaw Farm in Linlithgow on 10 April 1850. He studied at Heriot-Watt College then the University of Edinburgh. After an initial start as a Post Office engineer he became a journalist and then a newspaper editor, overseeing two Liberal publications: the "Scottish Leader" and "Dundee Advertiser". The University of St Andrews awarded him an honorary doctorate (LLD) in 1903. Living in Dundee from 1895 to 1910 he lived at 23 Springfield. He was knighted by King Edward VII in 1902 for his contribution to transport proposals. In 1911 he was appointed Director of the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh, succeeding David Vallance. Thomas H. Martin Jr. is an American politician and businessperson. Political career Maine Senate Martin served as a Republican State Senator from Maine's 25th District, representing much of Kennebec County, including the population centers of Waterville and Winslow as well as two communities in Somerset County, including Pittsfield. At that time he was a resident of Benton, Maine. He was first elected to the Maine State Senate in 2010 and defeated for re-election in 2012 by Colleen Lachowicz. During his re-election campaign, the Maine Republican Party criticized Lachowicz for comments she made while playing World of Warcraft. After the criticism received national attention, gamers donated $6,300 to two PACs supporting Lachowicz. Overall, $181,000 was spent to oppose Martin's re-election. Thomas Allen Martin (December 31, 1948 – March 27, 2018) was an American politician who served as mayor of Lubbock, Texas, from 2008 to 2012. He was a member of the Lubbock City Council from 2002 to 2006. Prior to seeking elected office, he had a career in law enforcement in Lubbock, Grapevine, and San Marcos, Texas. He has served as an instructor of criminal justice and political science at Wayland Baptist University's Lubbock campus. Although Texas elections for mayors are explicitly nonpartisan, Martin is regarded as a Republican. Martin was a defender of maintaining confidentiality on the e-mail messages of city officials on public e-mail accounts and cellphones. Thomas Martin (born July 22, 1940) is an American-born musician and luthier, known for playing the double bass. He was twice awarded prizes for his recordings of Giovanni Bottesini's work, and he has been principal in many orchestras of importance, including the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. Martin was formerly International Chair of Double Bass at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and has been professor both at the Royal College of Music Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow. Thomas Martin (15 January 1911 – 7 December 1937) was an Irish first-class cricketer. Martin was born in Lisburn in January 1911, where he was educated at Lisburn Intermediate School. (Which is now The Wallace High School) After leaving secondary education, Martin went up to Queen's University Belfast. Playing his club cricket for Lisburn, as one of "Awty's Boys", a group of young cricketers coached by the Staffordshire minor counties cricketer Joe Awty. His move to Belfast saw him play his club cricket for Queen's University. A tall man, standing over six feet tall, Martin used his height to his advantage as a fast-medium bowler, able to extract good bounce and move the ball both ways. His debut for Ireland came in a minor match against Sir J Cahn's XI at Belfast in 1930. Thomas Ballantyne Martin (13 November 1901 – 28 January 1995) was a British politician, stockbroker and journalist. After an early career as a private secretary he was unexpectedly elected as a Conservative Member of Parliament for Blaydon, a traditionally extremely secure Labour constituency. After standing up in Parliament for the local mining industry he opted out of defending his seat, and could not find election elsewhere; he then became a political journalist. After wartime service in intelligence, he supported Winston Churchill's attempt to bring European unity and then became a stockbroker. A very clubbable man, he attracted interest in the 1990s as a rare survivor of the pre-Second World War Parliament.
