Tom Long (Gaelic Footballer)
Thomas Long (born 1936 in Ventry, County Kerry, Ireland) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career with the Kerry senior team spanned nine seasons from 1956 to 1964. Long made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he was selected for the Kerry minor team. He enjoyed one championship season with the minor team, however, he ended the season as All-Ireland runner-up. Long made his senior debut during the 1956 championship. Over the course of the next nine seasons, he won two All-Ireland medals in 1959 and 1962. Long also won seven Munster medals and three National Football League medals. He played his last game for Kerry in September 1964. After being chosen on the Munster inter-provincial team for the first time in 1957, Long was a regular member of the starting fifteen at various times over the course of the following seven years. Munster Minor Football Championship
The Munster Minor Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1928 for the youngest competitors (under-18) in the province of Munster in Ireland. It is currently sponsored by Electric Ireland and therefore officially known as the Electric Ireland Munster GAA Football Minor Championship. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Munster final currently being played on the second Sunday in July. The minor final provides the curtain-raiser to the senior final. The winning team is presented with the Tadhg Crowley Cup. This was presented by Munster Council in 1990 to commemorate Tadhg Crowley, who was elected as Munster Council Treasurer in 1968 and served until his death in December 1989. 1964 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 1964 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 78th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 26 April 1964 and ended on 27 September 1964. Dublin entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Meath in the Leinster final. It was Galway's second consecutive final, having lost to Dublin in the previous year's decider. The Tribesmen won their 5th All-Ireland title, beating Kerry by 5 points in the final, 0-15 to 0-10. The 1963 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 77th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 5 May 1963 and ended on 22 September 1963. As of 2018, it remains the last All Ireland Senior Football Championship season to be completed without any draws. Kilkenny dropped from the championship until 1975. Kerry entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. On 22 September 1963, Dublin won the championship following a 1-9 to 0-10 defeat of Galway in the All-Ireland final.
