Lance Sergeant Thomas Kenny VC (4 April 1882 − 29 November 1948) was a British Army soldier and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy given to British and Commonwealth forces. On 4 November 1915 near La Houssoie, France, 33-year-old Kenny performed an act of bravery for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. Biography He was a private in the 13th Battalion, The Durham Light Infantry, British Army during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. In thick mist, an officer in charge of a patrol was shot through both thighs. Private Kenny, although repeatedly fired on by the enemy, crawled about for more than an hour with his wounded officer on his back, trying to find his way through the fog to the British trenches. Thomas Edward Kenny
Thomas Edward Kenny (October 12, 1833 – October 25, 1908) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Halifax in the House of Commons of Canada from 1887 to 1896 as a Conservative member. He was born in Halifax, the son of Edward Kenny and Ann Forrestall, and was educated at Stonyhurst College and the Collège Saint-Servais. On his return, he entered the family dry goods business, taking over its operation around 1870. At one time, Kenny was part-owner of 18 ships; he sold his shares in several and expanded into manufacturing, becoming involved in sugar refining and cotton. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991. After Marshall, Thomas is the second African American to serve on the Court and its longest-serving member since Anthony Kennedy's retirement in 2018. Thomas was born in Pin Point, Georgia. After his father abandoned the family, he was raised by his grandfather in a poor Gullah community near Savannah. Growing up as a devout Catholic, Thomas originally intended to be a priest in the Catholic Church but was frustrated over the church's insufficient attempts to combat racism. Thomas Kenny (born 16 July 1981) is an Irish hurling coach and hurler who plays for Cork Intermediate Championship club Grenagh. He played for the Cork senior hurling team for 10 years, during which time he usually lined out at midfield before ending his career at right wing-back. Kenny's midfield partnership with Jerry O'Connor is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. Kenny began his hurling and Gaelic football career at club level with Grenagh. After success as a dual player in the minor grades, he eventually broke onto the club's top adult teams. Kenny enjoyed his first success in 2007 when Grenagh won the Intermediate Football Championship. He won a second Intermediate Football Championship title in 2013, while also claiming a Junior Hurling Championship medal the same season. Tom 'Cork' Kenny, (c. 1880 – c. 1950) was an Irish journalist, editor and founder of the ''Connacht Tribune''. Kenny was a native of County Cork who moved to Galway early in the 1900s. He established the ''Connacht Tribune'' newspaper in 1909, which has been in print ever since. In 1919, he managed to reach Derrygimlagh bog before the correspondent of the ''Daily Mail'', who had been waiting for the arrival of Alcock and Brown. General Sir Thomas Kelly-Kenny, (27 February 1840 – 26 December 1914) was a British Army general who served in the Second Boer War. Military and political career Thomas Kelly was born on 27 February 1840 in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland, the fifth son of Matthew Kelly and Mary Kenny. He was educated as a lay student at St. Patrick's College, Carlow (University of London). He assumed in 1874 the additional name of Kenny, under the will of his maternal uncle, Dr. Mathias Kenny, a survivor of the Peninsular War and the Battle of Waterloo. Kelly-Kenny was appointed ensign without purchase in the 1st Battalion, 2nd (The Queen's Royal) Regiment of Foot on 2 February 1858 and was appointed to command the escort of General Sir James Jackson, General Officer Commanding Cape of Good Hope.
