Tom Janik
Thomas Alvin Janik (September 6, 1940 – November 21, 2009) was an American football player. Born in Poth, Texas, he attended the Texas College of Arts and Industries—now known as Texas A&M University–Kingsville— where he was an all-conference running back and punter. He was inducted to the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982. Janik was a safety for nine seasons of professional football. He played for the American Football League's Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, and Boston Patriots, and for the NFL's Patriots. He was an AFL All-Star in 1965, when he played for the AFL Champion Bills, and again in 1967. One of Janik's biggest games was the September 29, 1968 contest at home against the New York Jets, in which the Bills' defensive backfield picked off Joe Namath five times, three times for touchdowns as Butch Byrd and Booker Edgerson had 53 and 45-yard TD interceptions within 1:02, and Janik had one of two picks go for a 100-yard score. Poth ( ) is a town in Wilson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2020 census. It is part of the San Antonio metropolitan area. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km), all of it land. This is about 35 mi (56 km) southeast of Downtown San Antonio. Demographics As of the 2020 United States census, there were 1,819 people, 504 households, and 433 families residing in the town. At the 2000 census there were 1,850 people, 623 households, and 490 families in the town. The population density was 579.7 people per square mile (223.9/km). Butch Byrd
George Edward "Butch" Byrd (born September 20, 1941) is a former professional American football defensive back. He started his career playing college football at Boston University. He joined the Buffalo Bills in 1964 and immediately made an impact in the defensive backfield, with seven interceptions. Byrd was also a punt returner for his entire career. Byrd holds the Bills' career records for interceptions (40), interception return yards (666) and interceptions returned for touchdowns (5). He was a five-time American Football League All-Star, and was selected for the second-team, All-Time All-AFL. Byrd is a 1980 inductee of the Boston University Hall of Fame, LaSalle Institute Athletic Hall of Fame, Albany Capital District Hall of Fame, named to the All-Time Buffalo Bills Silver Anniversary Team in 1984, and in 2008 was selected to the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
