Toll Of The Desert
''Toll of the Desert'' is a 1935 American western film directed by William Berke and starring Fred Kohler, Jr., Betty Mack, and Roger Williams. Plot When a cowboy's covered wagon is attacked by Indians, he becomes convinced that his wife and young son have been killed. Rescued from the attack by a roving band of crooks, the grateful father joins the gang, becoming an outlaw and hired gunman. Unbeknownst to him, his son survives the Indian attack and grows up to become a lawman who eventually has to hunt down his outlaw father. William Berke
William A. Berke (born October 3, 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin – died February 15, 1958 in Los Angeles, California) was an American film director, producer, actor and screenwriter. He wrote, directed, and/or produced some 200 films over a three-decade career. Biography Berke broke into motion pictures in 1922 as a writer for silent westerns. For these assignments he used the pseudonym "William Lester." In the early 1930s he formed a partnership with independent producer Bernard B. Ray to make feature films at Ray's Reliable Pictures studio, next door to the Columbia Pictures studio. Berke, now using his own name for screen credits, was equally capable making comedies, mysteries, action adventures, and westerns. In 1942 he joined Columbia, at first directing that studio's Charles Starrett and Russell Hayden westerns, and then branching out into more mainstream fare. William McCall (May 19, 1870 – January 10, 1938), was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 190 films between 1918 and 1938. He was born in Delavan, Illinois, and died in Hollywood, California. McCall acted on stage before he began working in film for Vitagraph. During his early film activity he was credited as Billy McCall, and he performed primarily in comic roles in farces, including ''Huns and Hyphens'' (1918) and ''Frauds and Frenzies'' (1918). Jack Hendricks
John Charles Hendricks (April 9, 1875 – May 13, 1943) was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played parts of two seasons in Major League Baseball as an outfielder, but is best known as the manager of the Cincinnati Reds from 1924 to 1929. Playing career Hendricks' brief playing career consisted of half a game with the New York Giants and two with the Chicago Orphans in 1902, and 32 games with the Washington Senators in 1903 following the death of Ed Delahanty. Managerial career After retiring as a player, he started managing in the minor leagues, eventually getting his major league opportunity when Miller Huggins was fired by the St. Louis Cardinals after the 1917 season. Budd Leland Buster (June 14, 1891 – December 22, 1965), usually credited as Budd Buster (and sometimes Bud Buster), was an American actor known for B western films. He sometimes was credited as George Selk in his later work. Early life Buster was born either Budd Leland Buster or Leland Buster near Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 14, 1891. His parents were John M. Buster and Anna (Annie) Moore Buster, both from Missouri. According to the 1900 census, the family resided in Colorado Springs, and included Buster's one year younger sister, Demple, and his paternal grandmother.
