Tokyo Metropolitan Toyama High School
is a public day school run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The campus is located in Toyama 3-chome, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. It has been designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It has also been designated as part of the Team Medical (TM) project run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Board of Education (a project where students who wish to go on to medical school form a team). Mitsuru Yoshida
Mitsuru Yoshida (吉田 満 ''Yoshida Mitsuru'' January 6, 1923 – September 17, 1979) was a Japanese author and naval officer. He was born in Tokyo. He was a survivor of the battleship ''Yamato'' when it was sunk on 7 April 1945 during Operation Ten-Go, an attempt to support the defenders of Okinawa. His best-known work is ''Senkan Yamato-no Saigo'' ( 戦艦大和ノ最期, Requiem for Battleship Yamato), based on his personal experiences as a junior officer on ''Yamatos final voyage. Hideo Shima
was a Japanese engineer and the driving force behind the building of the first bullet train (Shinkansen). Shima was born in Osaka in 1901, and educated at the Tokyo Imperial University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. His father was part of a group of officials that had built up Japan's emerging railroad industry. Career in Japan National Railways Hideo Shima joined the Ministry of Railways (Japanese Government Railways) in 1925, where, as a rolling-stock engineer, he designed steam locomotives. Using new techniques to balance the driving wheels and new valve gear designs, he helped design Japan's first 3-cylinder locomotive - the Class C53, which was based on the Class C52 imported from the United States. Kiyoshi Jinzai
was a Japanese novelist, Russian translator and literary critic active during the Shōwa period of Japan. Early life Jinzai was born in Tokyo; his father was an official in the Home Ministry. As his father was frequently transferred, as a child Jinzai lived in many locations around Japan, the longest period of which was in Taiwan (then under Japanese rule). In 1911, while in Taiwan, his father contracted malaria and died in 1912. Jinzai was then raised by his maternal aunt. While in junior high school, he met Michio Takeyama, and in high school he met Tatsuo Hori, both of whom became his lifelong friends. Initially aspiring to become an architect, he was interested in poetry and French literature, but after enrolling in the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, he changed to Russian instead.
